The Platform - Towards a clearer civilised future Dear Elon, this is my contribution to the debate over free speech in order to establish the highest ideals of Journalist reporting. I am Peter Coates who possesses over forty years of assessing and analysing the media in the UK. The Platform Mission Statement The Goal and Objectives My aim in this ‘Platform’ is at its core, to create a true ‘Open Arena’ free from ‘Coercion’, fear from penalties and moral censuring – be it from Corporations, Woke activists, Governmental Entities and Foreign Interests. Voice is to be given to all opinions, and respect as responsible Adults allowing true legitimate ‘free expression’ in the UK so as to avoid ‘pent-up’ frustrations building to possibly endanger ‘Civil Society’ and even the ‘Legitimacy’ of our state’s ‘Institutions and Foundations’. I find the following anathema to ‘free speech’, but also being able to be ‘objective’, the highest standards of journalism and exposing ‘injustices’ committed by powerful ‘Systems’ and ‘Elites’, be them Polities and ‘Economic’: untruths, biases, omissions, heckling, harassment, censure, moralising, ignorance, pressure, arrogance, abhorrence, confusion, misleading, intolerant, over zealous vetting, editing by committee groups and organisations, negative, malicious and dangerous preaching and subjectivity during debates. My greatest fear that I seek to prevent the ‘above’ establishing itself as the ‘norm’ and ‘common practice’ within our media outlets, exponentially growing ‘unchecked’ like a cancer threateningly and dangerously corroding our sources of information and ‘broadcasting’, even in ‘Plain Site’. My heartfelt passion is for a plan to help the maintenance, and survival of sincere, genuine expression of views in a civil environment that enhances our ultimately legitimate Polity and Economic establishment of care, justice and social responsibility. This is meant to be ‘Idealistic’ in aiming for the ‘Stars’, for we deserve the highest standards for ourselves in care and welfare, do we not? I want to see enhanced social harmony, peace and communities with hope propelled and encouraged through a media objective, panoramic and balanced. Though irrelevant to this platform, I possess over forty years of observing media coverage, assessing and analysing from the left, the right, centre, digital, TV and print; am an Author and a retired business studies teacher. To pursue this objective I seek to ascertain whether our news outlets are adhering to the core principles and highest standards of journalism we claim we are in being a beacon of ‘free speech’ for everyone, not just ‘Historians’ and ‘Researchers’ such as myself, especially those who don’t have the inclination and time to dwell on the matter. The ‘True Meaning’ of Journalism According to Britannica, the concept of journalism is: collection, preparation and the distribution of news, related commentary and features in the form of print.

Monday Musings: Honest Journalism / Actions Have Consequences (Part 2)! This could be ‘any’ newspaper. It’s 1 year of coverage of ‘News Articles’ for “5G” which typically appears in the first pages of the newspaper. There are other articles covering the Mobile Network Operators and Network Equipment Providers financials in the business pages further back. Which few people read. What people read is: 6 Articles on ‘5G Conspiracy Theorists’ 5 Articles on ‘Battles’ against ‘eyesore 5G’ mobile site planning applications implying that permission ‘has not been sought’ which neglecting to say that qualifying structures do not require prior permission. 1 Article implying that ‘small cells fall off and might kill people’. And then a report that 5G coverage in the UK is worse than rivals! So after “rabble-rousing” (without a single positive “news article” about mobile sites) against 5G upgrades on existing sites, and against new ‘5G’ sites this ‘journalist’ reports that the UK is ‘behind rivals’ for 5G performance. Well, no s#!t Sherlock! #Infrastructure #EveryDaysaSchoolDay #Mobile 🤳🏼 #Telecommunications Previous Post: https://lnkd.in/eAgDxrP6

A good read, three points that stood out for me: 1. "The industry’s position seems to be that allowing in-country consolidation of telecoms assets is a precursor to cross-border consolidation and pan-European ownership. This is doubtful." 2. "We all know that technological forces are pulling the industry towards vertical disaggregation rather than horizontal aggregation. The White Paper recognises this but positions it mainly as a threat to vertically integrated European telecoms operators... I think the Commission should instead accept and anticipate that today’s vertically integrated telecom operators will see further disaggregation or unbundling of their functions." 3. "The Digital Markets Act has now introduced various regulatory measures which are intended to open up third party access to software and hardware in digital devices. I think we may require something similar with respect to virtualised local telecoms networks."
I spoke briefly at a conference today about the European Commission's Telecoms Act White Paper. Here is a longer note on some of the points made.

Thanks for sharing this insightful note. Key take-aways for me: 1) Cross-border consolidation is a red herring - economies of scale in telecoms are largely local. 2) "...the Commission should accept and anticipate that today’s vertically integrated telecom operators will see further disaggregation or unbundling of their functions. It then needs to consider how regulation should evolve to ensure that Europe will benefit from this to the greatest extent possible." However, while I can see that the regulatory toolbox may need upgrading to catch up with the softwarisation of networks, I am puzzled by the broad sweep of examples which include many telecoms markets where there have been no findings of persistent market power (i.e. mobile) and also many fixed markets - especially as Richard's paper earlier this year set this out so compellingly (sharing again: https://lnkd.in/dT3S7Dc7).

On #ThisDayInHistory, the US government passed the Communications Act of 1934, which combined and organized federal regulation of telephone, telegraph, and radio communications and created the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC plays an important role in what we do here at RDG, particularly when it comes to RF communication. #innovation #science #engineering

A new study provides solid scientific evidence that higher bandwidth leads to greater efficiency and fewer wasted human hours. According to the research, a user with 100/20 Mbps bandwidth wastes about 18 minutes per day due to small delays, while a user with 700/500 Mbps (a gigabit customer constrained by Wi-Fi, for instance) experiences significantly less wasted time. This time savings translates to substantial financial benefits for both individuals and the country as a whole. Mobile communications that are available in every region of the world? What sounds like a dream of the future today could soon become possible through the use of non-terrestrial networks. But how does this work? And what do non-terrestrial networks have to do with it? Check it out in our knowledge nugget👇 https://lnkd.in/diCzHVDa
