False alerts in fraud and anti-money laundering (AML) systems, transaction screening systems and even disputes can be costly for banks. Despite being well known problem the scalable, explainable AI solutions to manage false alerts across fraud, AML, screening and KYC are far and few. Our estimate it could be over $20-30 billion problem for US banks alone. Quinte is launching its fraud management product and I will be glad to share our approach of better fraud detection and management along with false alert managment. I will be at the American Bankers Association conference in Seattle between 11th to 14th June 2024 and I will be sharing our approach to reduce fasle alerts in these AI models in fully explainable way. We estimate that false alerts in Fraud and AML could be leading to 1. High False Positive Rates: Over 95% of transaction monitoring alerts are false positives, leading to billions of dollars lost annually in investigations and operational inefficiencies. 2. Operational Costs: False positives waste analysts' time and increase operational costs, reducing overall efficiency. 3. Resource Allocation: Banks misallocate resources by pursuing non-AML risks, leading to financial losses and inefficiencies. 4. Compliance Impact: Delays in investigating genuine suspicious activities due to high false positive volumes can result in non-compliance penalties and reputational damage. 5. Analyst Fatigue: The high volume of false positives contributes to analyst fatigue and exacerbates the talent shortage in AML compliance. 6. Technological Investments: Banks are investing in advanced technologies like machine learning and AI to reduce false positives, which also represents a significant financial investment. In addition, Anomaly detection with LLMs is a promising area looking forward to engaging discussion on these topics at the conference.

One of the fasciating aspects of #opensource is that like minded individuals can collaborate on things they care about. When #SparkConnect was announced, our Zingg world went for a toss 😭 Our Python API relied on the older architecture of Spark and stopped working on its newer versions. Our users could not build Zingg Customer 360 views and we lost some sleep 💤 . Well quite a bit of it actually 😴 . We guided them to continue using supported versions, while looking for the right approach to write our api, from scratch. Quite a week for the team at Kubiya.ai; announced their round lead by Heavybit and get tapped for a Gartner Cool Vendor. Skip the AI hype and go straight to practical applications that actually solve real pain. I’m clearly biased I invested in Kubiya.ai. Simple thesis, it’s what I wish I had when I did this work. I led what would now be called a platform team at Cloudera. We worked with the tools of the day (Puppet, Jenkins, etc). Automate all the things was the battle cry. We automated, scripted, tooled and were still behind the eight ball. It wasn’t enough to automate if we were still in the middle. We needed a way to get control of the interrupt driven work. Challenges of AI Networking for hyperscalers and enterprises Sept 27, 2024 I had the opportunity to meet with Manohar Paluri, VP of AI at Meta, this evening at the AI Tech Leaders Club, just under 24 hours before the AI Infra Summit on September 27, 2024. It’s been confirmed that the large training cluster at 500K GPUs is the next frontier for the hyperscaler industry. Meanwhile, on the enterprise side, standalone cluster sizes typically range from 20K to much smaller setups for retraining and inference. From my experience, while the challenges in these two sectors are intertwined, they can still be stated separately. 1) Checkpointing Challenges: Large GPU clusters require numerous checkpoints to maintain system reliability. The industry has recently implemented networking and checkpointing solutions for clusters with around 20K GPUs. Imagine the challenges we’ll face at the scale of 500K GPUs! 2) GPU Utilization: Typical GPU utilization hovers around 20%. While hyperscalers may achieve better numbers, overall utilization remains low. For this, a startup came up a clever solution to power down the idle GPUs dynamically to save up to 60% of power consumption from a GPU cluster. This approach could either reduce power usage from idle GPUs or, in conjunction with increased GPU utilization through further resources sharing—like memory, network, and model partitioning/parallelization—enhance overall efficiency. 3) Deployment Flexibility: The deployment of data center networks (hyperscaler cloud) or private networks (on-premises) for enterprises often lacks the necessary flexibility. For more insight, I recommend reading the justification for Google’s Optical Circuit Switching (OCS) network. Following conventional practices without innovative solutions can lead to over-investment in AI and cloud infrastructure. 4) ROI Optimization: Classic cloud infrastructure is often not optimized for ROI in AI networking, which leads to operational challenges for enterprises. To understand this, a little involved discussion is needed. Once understood, it becomes part of your instinct. Consider the competitive disadvantage faced by businesses that optimize ROI in their AI networks. We sat down with the insightful Aman Garg to seek his informed perspectives on the role of #AI in #PreSales. He pointed out an important vector to consider while assessing AI's impact - customer segmentation. Consider customers on a spectrum: from large enterprises with seven-figure ARR commitments to high-volume, high-transaction customers who may just sign up for free trials and need deeper feature demos. AI's impact will be most significant in this high-volume mid-market segment. Here, the investment in AI tools offers the highest return due to the sheer volume of interactions. 💡 🚀

We live more on a URL than in IRL. We have a duty as a digital citizen. On a recent podcast, Manoj Deshpande Neha Deshpande and I discussed digital civics - the rights and duties of a digital citizen, with a strong focus on good behavior and responsibilities. That discussion was all about extracting good civic behaviors from everyday life like being good to your neighbors, keeping your vicinity clean, showing respect, etc., and drawing a parallel to behavior on the internet. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) produces standards worldwide and it's members, in their wisdom, introduced IEC 61499. The IEC 61499 standard is a system-level design language for distributed information and control systems. It starts with event-driven function blocks and the behavior of a function block is defined as an event-driven state machine known as the Execution Control Chart.   This international technical commission, made up of technical experts worldwide, says events and state machines should be used to design automation systems.   DADA X uses events and state machines(with causal tracking) to control systems.
