The new bi-monthly service enhances MCT’s connectivity with key international markets in Hong Kong and Taiwan through the ports of Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Shekou, Subic, and Cebu, according to MCT parent company International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI). It further strengthens the role of Cagayan de Oro-based MCT, as an important gateway for trade in Mindanao, the company said. “This new partnership with Evergreen and Wan Hai further demonstrates our commitment to providing enhanced connectivity to Mindanao’s exporters and importers,” MCT chief executive officer Aurelio Garcia said in a statement. “As we continue to grow and expand our network, we’re confident that this new service will bring greater value to the region’s agricultural sector and foster economic growth,” Garcia added. Evergreen’s MV Ever Core, a 1,984 twenty-foot equivalent unit-capacity vessel, operates the service alternate with Wan Hai Lines’ Mindanao–Hong Kong–Taiwan (MHT) service, which is designed to meet the timely export needs of coconut by-products. “The additional capacity and improved schedules will help ensure that agricultural exporters can reliably meet the increasing demand from international buyers of one of Mindanao’s primary exports,” ICTSI said. It noted that MCT continues to enhance its facilities and expand its service offerings, positioning itself as a vital hub for international trade in Southern Philippines. By increasing capacity and introducing new shipping line services, ICTSI said the terminal commits to supporting the region’s growth and providing timely, efficient trade solutions for customers.

📣 As 2024 wraps up, all eyes are on the Gemini Cooperation and the new Ocean carrier alliances! The launch of Gemini, a collaboration between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd in February, has stirred industry discussions around its ambitious promise of achieving 90% on-time reliability. The question remains: can a hub-centric network like Gemini outperform MSC’s extensive direct-service model? Past performance, such as the 84% average from the 2M Alliance, shows high reliability is possible—but the Gemini network has unique factors that could work in its favor. With fewer port calls, Gemini statistically has a greater chance to maintain timeliness, but this may hinge on managing port delays under 2%. MSC, with its multiple direct routes, offers broader coverage but faces added delays per port. The ramp-up of an industry takes years and was started 7 years ago and then interrupted 3.5 years ago and thrown back into the garbage can. But I think the transpacific market is so huge and I am sure it will grow but hopefully in a healthy and economically stable way. Despite Asia’s current rankings, all is not perfect for the region’s ports. Some are facing significant congestion, which is affecting nearly half the Asia-Europe sailings. The port of Singapore and others in SE Asia are dealing with disrupted schedules, while Shanghai is experiencing its worst congestion since the pandemic. Vessels are dealing with long wait times to birth, which is leading to high utilization rates and reduced available capacity. Ongoing delays and blank sailings are making the situation worse, with no short-term relief in sight, which is keeping freight rates high and disrupting almost half of Asia-Europe sailings. #thefreightarchitects #jaguarfreight #logistics
