Came across this post and had to share - so many good candidates for jobs get left out of consideration because companies hold so tightly to the tools they use - social media planning tools, project management tools, etc. - it's rather sad. And don't get me started on recruitment companies - all they do is hold onto those keywords of specific applications, instead of educating themselves in the spectrum that could make up their candidate. From my own experiences - I have not once come into a situation having been "trained" on the tool a company uses. My work ethic leads me to learning that system and tool as fast as I can. From videos to clicking around and finding out, it's so easy for a good worker to get up to speed fast. All they need is that opportunity. So, if they feel right, but don't have the experience- give them the opportunity, and I promise you'll be happy.

a social media manager 9/10 has community manager experience. on my resume it shows years of being a social media manager, but within every single role i’ve done community management and engagement. i’ve done this for: 🐦 one of the biggest social media apps in this world (twitter) 🧃 two cpg brands 🎀 a metastatic breast cancer nonprofit organization 🧬 a science-backed skincare brand 🔈 an international audio equipment brand 🧖🏽‍♀️ medspa businesses & many more. i can honestly go on and on. when i am applying for community manager roles, it doesn’t make sense to me when companies say, “oh you don't have this many years with one specific type of industry” or “your experience doesn’t show that you’ve done this and that” recruiters, hiring managers, or whoever needs to hear this …. these things can be taught, they can be learned and it doesn’t take that long to adapt to a brands brand voice and the way they show up in social within their community. all people need is a chance. it’s almost like no one wants to take a chance on people anymore (in my kim kardashian voice). 🙂‍↔️ someone gave you a chance, be that for someone else. that’s all I’m saying 🤷🏽‍♀️ #socialmedia #socialmediamanager #communitymanager

PSA for Agencies & Brands 📣 Stop 👏🏻 underpaying 👏🏻 creators 👏🏻 Excitingly—but disappointingly—I had to decline the first ever branded collaboration that felt editorially aligned with The Recovering Girlboss this afternoon. It's still very much growing and sitting at just over 5.1K followers, but the community is strong 💪🏻 ❤️‍🩹 Why did I say no? - The fee was £200 for 3–5 videos—far too low. - No clear editorial brief to agree on upfront. - No mention of content usage or where it would be hosted. Let’s break it down: If this was for five videos, that’s £40 per video before tax, pension, and emergency savings. After deductions, I’d take home £100 for five videos—that’s £20 a video. This offer came from a well-known brand via an agency... Factor in the inevitable back-and-forth on edits, plus the time spent creating, and the profit margin? Insignificant at best—operating at a loss, at worst. The bigger issue? Accepting offers like this sets a dangerous precedent for undervaluing creators and the work we put in. I get it—budgets are tight. As someone who works on both sides of this industry, I know the challenges: finding editorially aligned creators who meet your vision while balancing costs. But cutting costs like this risks alienating creators who genuinely want to collaborate (like me!). It also undermines the potential long-term profitability of campaigns—missing out on the value that engaged, loyal communities can bring. I’ve reached out to this agency to see if the budget can be re-evaluated, but I’m not holding my breath. So, a word to brands and agencies: - Pay creators fairly. - Outline clear deliverables. - Respect the monetary value of creative work. So Spotify Wrapped has told me... Absolutely nothing. Fans were loving your show this year - "Oh really what were they saying?"... 90% of your listeners discovered you this year - "Oh... Is that how you measure how much fans love my show?" You climbed the charts in the United Kingdom, feels good doesn't it? - "Yeah, for about 3 seconds" Your top fans listen to you 2.1 times more than your other listeners - "What does that even mean?" Your fans have entered the conversation! - "Oooh, what were they saying?!" You had x comments - "Great. Were they positive? Did the contribute to the conversation? Did they let us know how they felt?... ... And this episode was the most commented on - "I don't care how many there are! Just tell me what people enjoy about the show!" Thank you for giving people something to talk about. "Your welcome. What did they say?" *sigh* This is why we manually reach out to audiences and speak to them about the shows we produce. If there’s one thing every Social Media Manager needs to master, it’s adaptability. Trends change, platforms update, and if you’re stuck in a rigid plan, you’re already losing. Strategy? Yeah, it’s important. But what’s more important is constantly analyzing your posts, understanding what’s working, and being willing to switch things up when needed. You’ve got to experiment. Don’t be afraid to try new things. And forget about being “on brand” all the time—that obsession kills creativity. No one cares if your content matches your brand colors; they care if it’s valuable and real. The key is to focus on what actually matters: content that hits home, content that’s GOOD. How TikTok Transformed My Career in Just 3 Months... In just three months, TikTok revolutionized both my career and my role at Snap Supplements. After leading the influencer social media department for 3.5 years with minimal success, the launch of TikTok Shop changed everything. It gave me the platform to apply all I had learned during those years. Within three months on TikTok, Snap Supplements rose to the #2 spot among all health brands. This rapid growth gave me the opportunity to build my own team, which has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Out of all my accomplishments, this stands as my #1 success. Each team member went through a rigorous hiring process that took weeks, sometimes months, to complete. The result? One of the best TikTok teams in the industry. Since, we’ve faced continuous challenges that caused us to lose our #2 position. But I’ve never been more proud of my team. Our constant pivoting, troubleshooting, and hustle have only made us more united and resilient. There’s still no clear light at the end of the tunnel, but that’s what makes this post so meaningful to me—knowing, even in the midst of the storm I can depend on this team to make it happen. Building this team and seeing what we’ve achieved together has been a fulfilling and rewarding experience. A huge thank you to TikTok and my founders for believing in me.
