3 HIGHLY Underrated skills to have as a Social Media Professional 👇 👉 The ability to make decks (yes…decks) to communicate and convey strategy to team members 👉 Being scrappy and making big things happen with limited resources. Creativity doesn’t have to break the bank! 👉 The ability to move fast while maintaining content quality. Social moves SO fast, so we have to as well. What would you add?
Doubling down on decks!! Communicating strategy effectively to stakeholders regardless of their level of familiarity with social channels or platforms is crucial. Especially when needing to move at speed!
#2 is so underrated! Just be resourceful! Regardless of budget 💪
Formatting! You have to know how to display the information in a digestible way. Something as simple as using a line break at the right time, or using a bulleted list instead of a paragraph can make or break a post.
Absolutely! Creativity on a budget is key! 🚀
Thinking outside of the box! 💡
Hi Sam! What platforms do you use to create content for social media? I use Canva, but I feel like a lot of people also use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
I would say patience and perseverance as well. It takes weeks, months, maybe even years for some of those efforts to pay off.
I think having a background in customer experience has been really helpful for me. At first, I saw it as a disadvantage that I was swapping from CX into social and didn't have a huge marketing background, but over time, it’s helped me really understand what customers want, what frustrates them, and what kind of content resonates most. With social media becoming a more common channel for customer service inquiries, I’ve found that my CX skills make me more well-rounded and able to engage with customers in a more meaningful way.
Being scrappy is so underrated. Anyone who has been a marketing team of one or worked with a next-to-zero budget knows how to be creative and makes things happen.

2moMy addition would be: restraint Not getting too wordy in caption copy, not giving away the information in your CTA which would negate the need for a CTA, not posting just because you think you should, not over-advertising, etc.
