One of the most essential reasons Texans should ADOPT this holiday season is to ensure they are not inadvertently supporting and endorsing commercial breeding facilities, better known as puppy mills, that supply pet stores and sell pets online. We hope that this time next year, we won’t have to ask our fellow Texans to avoid retail pet stores through the passage of our legislative priority, the Ethical Pet Sales Bill. Thank you to KPRC2 Lisa Hernandez for covering this story! https://lnkd.in/gtS-jxEG

The voice in Texas Legislation for abused animals.
About us
Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) is a 501c4 nonprofit organization founded in 1975 working to stop animal cruelty and abuse before it starts. We are the ONLY Texas-based organization focused on addressing unjust state animal welfare laws. As a 501c4, we are unique in that we are able to act as a political voice for animals across Texas. This allows us to engage in unlimited lobbying as it relates to animal welfare. Looking to get involved with our mission? Visit our website at thln.org.

We strongly urges everyone NOT to buy live animals as Christmas and Holiday gifts unless they are ready to make a 10-plus-year (minimum) commitment to caring for them! If you think you are ready to make a life-long commitment, here is a list of things to consider before gifting an animal this holiday season: https://lnkd.in/g48TSy3h #animalwelfare #nonprofit #holidays

Last week, I had the pleasure of coordinating and leading the third annual Animal Policy Alliance (APA) Summit. The APA Summit is an event hosted by The Humane League that brings a coalition of animal protection organizations together from all corners of the US to discuss legislative strategy, emerging policies, and collaboration opportunities impacting animals. At the conclusion of the APA Summit, we all left with a collective sense of community, inspiration, and empowerment as we continue to advance meaningful policy reform for animals. Now 23 organizations strong across 15 states plus Washington DC, the APA is a growing coalition of state and locally based organizations who come together to stop the abuse of animals raised for food and fur through legislative advocacy. Learn more about the APA here: https://lnkd.in/gMKxBgMB DC Voters for Animals, NORTHWEST ANIMAL RIGHTS NETWORK, Voters For Animal Rights, Animal Rights Initiative, Pasado's Safe Haven, Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation, Texas Humane Legislation Network, Associated Humane Societies, Animal Protection Voters, Vegan Activist Alliance, Chilis on Wheels, Humane Action Pittsburgh, Tindakan, Compassionate Action for Animals, MSPCA-Angell, Social Compassion in Legislation, Cultivate Empathy for All

We often hear, “Why work so hard to pass animal laws when they’re not being enforced?” These two cases show precisely what can happen when we use our voices to pass animal protection laws! Here are two powerful examples of our laws in action: ➡️ In North Texas, a man pleaded guilty after leaving ten dogs outside in 15-degree weather, resulting in the deaths of three. He was sentenced to six years in prison for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals. https://bit.ly/3OQwYSh ➡️ A jury took less than an hour to sentence a man from Weatherford, Texas, to TWO 10-year prison terms for torturing and killing kittens, delivering the maximum penalty on each count of animal cruelty. https://bit.ly/3BoLRIq At THLN, our work doesn’t end once a law is passed. We remain dedicated to protecting animals by both advocating for and ensuring the enforcement of these critical laws. The animal cruelty law continues to be strengthened! One of the biggest honors of my life just happened! The Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) awarded us with the “Heroes Award” for FarmHouse Fresh’s animal rescue work & commitment to making a meaningful impact in Texas and the US. This non-profit group is at the forefront of so many important laws that protect animals in Texas. They are OUR heroes – and being recognized by them leaves me speechless & also *inspired* to continue doing even more to make significant impacts for the wellbeing of animals. I’m so proud to be among other award recipients - Assistant District Attorney Jessica Trevizo - Chief, Community Prosecution & Animal Cruelty with Dallas County District Attorney's Office and the Donna North High School Animal Science Department. What a beautiful luncheon – with a roomful of likeminded supporters — amazing shelter and rescue groups, judges, animal control officers, officials, animal policy groups, and more, plus all the family members and coworkers who support everyone through thick and thin. Thank you Texas Humane Legislation Network for this award and for everything you do. We are so very proud to continue making a difference in the lives of animals! #THLN #AnnualPawsAndPolicyBrunch #Heroes #Leaders #AnimalFriendlyLegislation
