Have you ever felt lonely? Over 2700 East Oakland students attend Education for Change schools every year, navigating their education with great resilience, and supported by our dedicated staff. Yet many of our students struggle to feel fully connected to their peers, mirroring the national epidemic of loneliness declared by the US Surgeon General. To address this, we are launching an EFC-wide Student Belonging initiative: a comprehensive effort aimed at fostering deeper connections through peer mentoring and other practices informed by the science of belonging. This month, you can help a student feel like they belong. Research shows that a strong sense of belonging is directly linked to academic success, personal well-being, and overall satisfaction in school. Please join us to help raise $20,000 to fund our new peer mentoring program so that we can increase students’ sense of belonging. ⭐ With a $50 donation, you can cover the cost to train one peer mentor. ⭐ With a $100 donation, you can empower a staff advisor to support peer mentors. ⭐ With a $500 donation, you can cover peer mentoring for an entire class. 🌎 At EFC, diversity isn’t just a value—it’s a commitment we live every day. One of the ways we embrace this commitment is by fostering a diverse and inclusive team, including welcoming incredible international teachers to our Oakland community. 🌎 We are proud to have 20 international teachers across 5 of our 6 schools, hailing from the Philippines, Colombia, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic. Their unique perspectives and talents enrich our classrooms and inspire our students every day. ⭐️Recently, we celebrated this amazing group with a Holiday Game Night—a fun-filled evening to show our appreciation for their contributions and to build connections beyond the classroom. We’re grateful for the vibrant culture and global insights these educators bring to EFC, helping us grow stronger together. #DiversityAndInclusion #InternationalTeachers

💡Gratitude practices at school: What works and what doesn't. 🙏 With Thanksgiving approaching, November is the perfect time to step back and focus on gratitude in the classroom. Incorporating gratitude thoughtfully can enhance well-being throughout the school community, but it's all about finding the right approach! 🙏 Successful practices are consistent, genuine, and embedded into the school culture, while forced or overly scripted gratitude activities can backfire. Fostering meaningful, voluntary gratitude among students and staff strengthens relationships and builds a positive environment. 📗 Read more about which gratitude strategies work best here: https://lnkd.in/gYRE7g27

🌼💀 Feliz Día de los Muertos! 💀🌼 🌼💀At all of our EFC schools, we embrace the rich cultural traditions that reflect the diversity of our community. Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a special time to honor the lives of those who have passed, reminding us that remembering loved ones can be both joyful and meaningful. 🌼💀Students across our schools are learning about this vibrant tradition, building ofrendas (altars) decorated with marigolds, candles, and keepsakes, while creating sugar skulls to understand the importance of embracing life’s cycles. Unlike Halloween, this tradition sees death as a natural part of life and emphasizes connection with family across generations. 🌼💀As we celebrate in Oakland—home to a proud Latino/a/x community—we honor the beauty of heritage, family, and remembrance. These lessons foster empathy and cultural appreciation, strengthening bonds between students of all backgrounds. ✅ Check out this beautiful ofrenda at Achieve Academy!
