🌎 At EFC, diversity isn’t just a value—it’s a commitment we live every day. One of the ways we embrace this commitment is by fostering a diverse and inclusive team, including welcoming incredible international teachers to our Oakland community. 🌎 We are proud to have 20 international teachers across 5 of our 6 schools, hailing from the Philippines, Colombia, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic. Their unique perspectives and talents enrich our classrooms and inspire our students every day. ⭐️Recently, we celebrated this amazing group with a Holiday Game Night—a fun-filled evening to show our appreciation for their contributions and to build connections beyond the classroom. We’re grateful for the vibrant culture and global insights these educators bring to EFC, helping us grow stronger together. #DiversityAndInclusion #InternationalTeachers

Today is 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸, so why not take this opportunity to ask your students what education means to them? Matthew Hayes' blog explores the importance of global citizenship education (GCE) and how it can help students understand the 'higher purpose' of education. GCE encourages learners to think beyond their immediate community, towards the challenges and opportunities of their globally connected generation. Today is Day 2 and here are my key takeaways from Day 1 of the Global Citizenship Foundation #ICTE 2024 Both teachers and learners need choice, voice and shared decision making”- Dr Sue Roffey During Dr Sue’s presentation, as an After School Champion I realised how in the After School space it is also important to never undermine the learners’ sense of competence and responsibility. “When students are not heard they may switch off and stop making effort.” When we do not co-create rules with learners in our ASP spaces, they are less likely to choose the values that underpin positive social behaviour, increasing passivity thus inhibiting active citizenship Our learners need to be taught how to develop healthy relationships - the crux of our wellbeing When we are more focused on sharing information with the learner than we are about training them to think critically we then tend to “teach subjects rather than children” “Curiosity is embedded in us, what often is the problem is that they are unmotivated to learn what YOU TEACH them..so try to link it in with something that’s already of interest to the children.” Developing project based learning preferably in groups can enhance learning. I know first hand how this builds agency and confidence that one’s ideas matter.

Exciting Opportunity Alert! CCWA is seeking host families for high-achieving students from Mexico through the U.S. Embassy in Mexico's Jovenes en Accion exchange program. Why is hosting international students important? 🌍 Cultural Exchange: Hosting provides a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, perspectives, and cultural traditions. It's a chance to broaden horizons and gain fresh insights into different ways of life. 💡 Global Perspective: Exposure to diverse perspectives fosters a more global mindset amongst young people. It encourages them to think beyond their own experiences and consider solutions from a broader array of viewpoints. 🤝 Building Networks: Hosting creates valuable networking opportunities, both professionally and personally. It expands your connections and opens doors to potential collaborations and partnerships on a global scale. 🌱 Personal Growth: Interacting with individuals from different backgrounds challenges us to step outside our comfort zones, develop empathy, and embrace diversity. It's a catalyst for personal growth and self-discovery. Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion in International Education: Welcoming New Teachers from Diverse Backgrounds Dear educators, I want to take a moment to celebrate and congratulate all the teachers who are stepping into the world of international education, especially those from diverse backgrounds. In today's evolving landscape, international schools are increasingly embracing educators based on their excellence rather than their country of origin, mother tongue, or any other characteristic that may have previously posed challenges for some teachers. Let's applaud the spirit of diversity and inclusion not only at the student level but also within the faculty. These new teachers are pioneers, paving the way for others and shouldering a significant responsibility for their colleagues to follow suit. They are not just educators; they are ambassadors of their cultures, bringing forth new and alternative perspectives that enrich the educational environment. To all the new teachers venturing into international education, know that you are valued, appreciated, and essential in shaping the future of education. Your presence not only diversifies classrooms but also broadens minds and fosters a more inclusive learning environment for all. Here's to celebrating the wonderful tapestry of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that make our educational community vibrant and enriching. Together, let's continue to champion diversity, inclusion, and excellence in education. #InternationalEducation #DiversityInEducation #InclusionMatters #NewTeachers #GlobalPerspectives

International schools offer a unique educational experience that appeals to a wide range of families. Most a time, teachers in these schools often uphold core values that reflect the diverse and dynamic nature of their environment. These include; 1. Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity. 2. Global citizenship. 3. Excellence and lifelong learning. 4.Adaptability and innovation. 5. Integrity and professionalism. 6. Student centred learning. 7. Collaboration and community building. With the current affairs kids should and must be exposed to these systems earlier enough with trained and qualified tutors who are familiar with most of the above core values.

New Blog Post Up!!!! “When I embarked on launching the Inspire, Educate, and Transform study abroad program in Ghana, I was driven by the desire to create an immersive experience that would push my students to think beyond the traditional classroom. This program not only gave them the opportunity to study in a new cultural context but also emphasized the importance of social justice, inclusion, and community partnership in education.” https://lnkd.in/gha3iSSx

🌍 Empowering Educators through Global Citizenship Education 🌍 As schools resume and teachers dive back into their daily routines, there's a unique opportunity to enrich our teaching practices and foster an inclusive learning environment. I encourage all educators to embark on the journey of Global Citizenship Education (GCED). Why GCED? Because it enables diversity in teaching, creates an enjoyable learning environment for all learners, and helps achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education). Imagine a classroom where students from different backgrounds feel valued and empowered to share their perspectives. A place where they learn not just academic skills, but also the importance of empathy, collaboration, and global awareness. This is what GCED can bring to our schools. By integrating GCED into our teaching, we are not only enhancing our professional skills but also contributing to a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world. Let's embrace this opportunity and make a lasting impact on our students' lives.Join me in this transformative journey. Let's equip ourselves with the tools to educate future global citizens. 🌟 Empowering International Students Through Personal Development & Citizenship Education As part of the Resolve program at the City of Portsmouth College, I have the privilege of supporting students from various countries for whom English is not their first language. This program is designed to not only enhance their personal development skills but also to provide valuable insights into British citizenship. Why is this important?🔹 Building Confidence: Many of our students face the challenge of adjusting to a new culture and language. Through the Resolve program, we focus on personal development skills such as communication, teamwork, and critical thinking. These are essential for thriving in both academic and professional environments.🔹 Fostering a Sense of Belonging: Citizenship education helps students understand their rights, responsibilities, and the cultural values of their new community. It empowers them to feel more connected and engaged, contributing positively to society.🔹 Developing Future Leaders: By teaching life skills, problem-solving, and decision-making, we are equipping students with the tools they need to navigate real-world challenges with confidence. This not only helps in their personal growth but also prepares them to be proactive, responsible citizens.🔹 Supporting Diversity: Our classrooms are a vibrant mix of cultures and experiences. This diversity enriches learning, fostering greater understanding, tolerance, and global awareness. The Resolve program is more than just a course—it’s a journey of growth and self-discovery for our students, preparing them for brighter futures. #Education #PersonalDevelopment #CitizenshipEducation #EmpoweringStudents #GlobalDiversity #StudentSupport #PortsmouthCollege #ESOL #GrowthMindset
