Lighthouse Community Public Schools is thrilled to announce the launch of a new Healthcare Pathway at both of our high schools from the Golden State Pathway and Strong Workforce grant programs, an initial investment of $1.2M for our East Oakland community. This initiative will significantly expand opportunities for students to take healthcare-related dual credit courses, access hands-on experiences, and prepare for careers in healthcare and mental health case management. We're gearing up for our 12th Annual Brothers Code, happening tomorrow! Excited to bring this youth-centered event to six cities across the country—Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Oakland. Love this Alumni Spotlight and grateful for our partnership with Cypress Mandela, Inc. and for Sam Davis's advocacy for Measure N/H, Linked Learning, and pathways for Oakland students! Jesus Lares, Lighthouse Class of 2024, the youngest of three sons who all went to Lighthouse, is charting a path less traveled among his peers. While in high school at Lighthouse, Jesús balanced dual enrollment college classes in Business and Interpersonal Communications with an eye toward a future in the skilled trades. Kimi Kean and I presented our session, Empowering Communities: Lessons from Families in Action Oakland for Collective Advocacy at the Charter Schools Development Center (CSDC) conference. It was great to share some key reminders about sharing power, community organizing, and building local political capacity. I am honored to be a board member of Families in Action for Quality Education and supporting this critical work!

A part of my advocacy work has focused on ensuring charter school students have equitable access to high quality facilities.
