For Vogue India, I wrote about how India's alcohol industry is going glocal, utilising both indigenous brews such as mahua and feni, as well as indigenous ingredients in cocktails, such as shukno lonka (dried Indian chilli), nolen gur (jaggery), ghee and the Bengali staple 'sandesh' (a Bengali sweet). For it, I spoke to bars and restaurants across India and private and government breweries in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Madhya Pradesh. It's not all about mixology, either - as I discovered, policy-making is a huge part of promoting local brews so that the communities whose livelihoods depend on them can benefit from this boom.
