The #AWIDForum2024 has come and gone, but questions about how we immediately resource our movements while dreaming of more abundant futures still reverberate. We left Bangkok with a clear mandate to co-conspire with our allies across the funding ecosystem with urgency, tenacity and collaboration as the magic tools in our collective box. We leave you these final thoughts, analyses and reflections as we close off the year, as well this quote from our “Talking Money” session at the AWID Forum: 💡 “This is the moment we were built for. We are back in a moment where gender equality funding is on the chopping block. We need to be ready and seize on the advocacy of the past and political windows when they open. We need to build public support. The impact of these decisions will impact women and girls and we need people to understand that. Remember that ODA (Official Development Assistance) is our money, tax-payers money, how do we make people understand how to use it.” - Katharine Im-Jenkins, Equality Fund 1. Alliance for Feminist Movements
Non-profit Organizations
Our multi-stakeholder membership convenes, collaborates, & advocates for resourcing & support for feminist movements
About us
The Alliance for Feminist Movements is a collaborative multi-stakeholder initiative between governments, private philanthropy, feminist funds, and civil society organizations dedicated to: 1. Increasing and improving resources dedicated to supporting diverse feminist movements 2. Mobilizing partnerships and political support for diverse feminist movements The strength of the Alliance for Feminist Movements comes from bringing together a range of stakeholders to tackle issues on funding and political support for feminist movements that are bigger than any single donor-grantee relationship or sector. We act as facilitators, communicators, and educators in the feminist resourcing ecosystem. With our members we convene, collaborate and advocate for more and better resourcing for feminist movements. We do this by: - Ensuring that resourcing feminist movements features prominently in and around key events through collaborative actions across the Alliance’s stakeholder groups. - Using the Alliance as a platform for collaborative learning and action. - Convening Alliance members in strategic and collaborative dialogues, with a focus on ensuring stability in the resourcing ecosystem among existing donors and a long-term goal to bring in new donors. - Engaging with the Alliance membership in advance of and following key events on messaging and collective actions. The Alliance is guided by a Steering Group directly chosen by its members. Current Steering Group members include the governments of Canada and Malawi, the Ford Foundation, and Foundation for a Just Society, Women’s Fund Asia, Mama Cash, XOESE, Resurj, APWLD, and Mujeres Transformando. AWID as the Alliance’s fiscal sponsor has a non-voting seat on the Steering Group. The Alliance is not a project of AWID. Become a member today and unlock the power of collective action as we reshape how our movements are funded and supported.

💰 The "Great Wealth Transfer" is here! Over the next 40 years, $41 trillion will shift to Gen X and millennials, with women inheriting 70% of this wealth. This moment isn’t just about money—it’s about power to drive progress on gender equality. 🌍 ✨ At the Equality Fund, we’re seizing this opportunity with a dual strategy: ✅ Bold, flexible grants—$100M already moved to 1,000+ feminist organizations across 100 countries. ✅ A gender-lens investment portfolio—$29M generated (so far!) to sustain and grow our grant-making impact. By combining philanthropy with values-driven investment, we’re proving that how we use resources matters. Together, these approaches multiply impact, empower feminist movements, and bring us closer to a just, equitable future. 💪 Interested in learning more? 💰 We want more and better funding! Huge Official Development Assistance cuts are happening in France, where the future conference on Feminist Foreign Policies is expected to take place in 2025. In the Netherlands, civil society organizations are facing historical budget cuts of one billion euros, as previously announced by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Aid. This is an immense step back for gender equality and women’s and LGBTIQ+ rights. 📈 Plus, to be eligible for any funding, now civil society organizations will have to up the income they generate independently from 25% to 50%, which causes inequalities in the Global South. These inequalities have already deeply impacted feminist and gender equality movements worldwide, as innovative funding mechanisms such as #LeadingFromTheSouth (LFS) may have to end their activities due to these massive budget cuts. 💡 In light of the political and economic uncertainties that affect feminist funding, the Walking the Talk consortium as part of the Feminist Foreign Policy Progressive Voices Collective (FFPPVC) in partnership with FEPS Europe and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU, created a brief in which feminist movements and their positive impact on democracy are highlighted. The brief, written by ALOAKINNOU Kpenassou Marie-Thérèse Benedicta, Lucie Daniel, Maria Malomalo, and Marinke van Riet, presents a comprehensive showcase of two innovative funding mechanisms: Fonds de Soutien aux Organisations Féministes (FSOF) and Leading From the South (LFS). 📢 Curious to learn more about innovative feminist funding? Less than 1% of official development assistance (#ODA) for gender equality goes to support women’s rights organisations and movements. Strong local women’s rights organisations are essential for ending gender-based violence. They can drive positive norm change and provide support for victims and survivors. Yet, women’s rights organisations often lack resources to carry out their work. Learn more about the importance of shifting investment to improve these organisations’ access to flexible, sustainable and quality funding to fulfil their missions. 🔗 https://brnw.ch/21wPji5 There is #NoExcuse. #16DaysofActivism
