💰 We want more and better funding! Huge Official Development Assistance cuts are happening in France, where the future conference on Feminist Foreign Policies is expected to take place in 2025. In the Netherlands, civil society organizations are facing historical budget cuts of one billion euros, as previously announced by the Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Aid. This is an immense step back for gender equality and women’s and LGBTIQ+ rights. 📈 Plus, to be eligible for any funding, now civil society organizations will have to up the income they generate independently from 25% to 50%, which causes inequalities in the Global South. These inequalities have already deeply impacted feminist and gender equality movements worldwide, as innovative funding mechanisms such as #LeadingFromTheSouth (LFS) may have to end their activities due to these massive budget cuts. 💡 In light of the political and economic uncertainties that affect feminist funding, the Walking the Talk consortium as part of the Feminist Foreign Policy Progressive Voices Collective (FFPPVC) in partnership with FEPS Europe and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU, created a brief in which feminist movements and their positive impact on democracy are highlighted. The brief, written by ALOAKINNOU Kpenassou Marie-Thérèse Benedicta, Lucie Daniel, Maria Malomalo, and Marinke van Riet, presents a comprehensive showcase of two innovative funding mechanisms: Fonds de Soutien aux Organisations Féministes (FSOF) and Leading From the South (LFS). 📢 Curious to learn more about innovative feminist funding? A call for concept notes has just been launched! To all Canadian and Indigenous organizations, we invite you to submit your concept notes for projects that address the root causes of irregular migration through economic empowerment, particularly of women and youth, in #Honduras. This call supports the North American Leaders’ Summit action plan, in which Canada pledged to advance trilateral cooperation on the development of practical measures to improve the coordination of development resources and expertise. As part of this pledge, this call is aimed at complementing the existing “Sembrando Oportunidades” bilateral development framework, a program that focuses on increasing the economic prosperity of smallholder farmers and training women and young workers. Successful applicants will carry out projects that address the root causes of irregular migration by creating economic opportunities for women and youth, particularly in marginalized and vulnerable communities in Honduras, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, supporting the creation of a stable environment conducive to economic growth, and by providing women and youth with the necessary skills, education and tools to compete in local and foreign markets. There are many factors driving people to leave their country, but a lack of economic opportunities is often one of the primary reasons for migration in Honduras. Total funding: $17.5 million over 5 years Are you interested? Please submit your application no later than 12 pm (noon) ET, April 24, 2024! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gjKFRA25 #Call #ConceptNotes #Migration #GenderEquality #ClimateAction #InternationalDevelopment #CentralAmerica

World Future Policy Award 2024 : Finalist Spotlight 1. Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (2017) Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), focuses on promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. Its feminist approach addresses systemic gender inequalities, engages men and boys, and fosters inclusive participation. The policy has been implemented in countries like Afghanistan (supporting women’s rights and economic empowerment), Iraq (establishing centres for survivors of sexual violence), Senegal (empowering women in agriculture), and Cambodia (improving food security through climate-resilient agriculture). The FIAP’s influence extends to international development policies, contributing to sustainable peace and security initiatives. As Canada approaches its 2025 elections, continued support for policies like FIAP, which promote gender equality and peace, remains crucial. This Women’s Day, we celebrate the remarkable achievements and enduring strength of women across South Africa. Every year, South Africans of all backgrounds, races and cultural groups come together to honour National Women’s Day, reflecting on the important contributions women make to society and the significant strides in women’s rights. We acknowledge the women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest apartheid’s oppressive laws. Their strength, unity and determination continue to inspire us. The recent appointment of Justice Mandisa Maya as South Africa’s first female Chief Justice bears testament to the strides we have taken. Not too long ago, the idea of having a female Chief Justice seemed beyond reach, and now look how far we’ve come. This is just one moment in our history, showcasing the progress we’ve made and the importance of gender equality. At LexisNexis South Africa, we are dedicated to advancing the rule of law and women empowerment. As we celebrate Women’s Day, we are inspired by the countless women who break barriers and lead with resilience and vision. Let’s continue to support and uplift each other, working towards a future where equality and justice prevail. #LexisNexisZA #AdvancingAfricasRuleofLaw #WomensDay

#CSW68 brought together 100+ world leaders, 4,800 representatives of civil society organizations, and saw an astonishing 1000+ side and parallel events. Today, Member States have adopted Agreed Conclusions to strengthen financing and institutions to eradicate women’s and girls’ poverty 🙌 The Agreed Conclusions: 📢 call for reforms to enable countries to mobilize and invest resources in gender equality, including debt relief and progressive taxation; 📢 note that official development assistance must be increased to address women’s and girls’ poverty; 📢 call for the implementation of gender-responsive economic and social policies, including increased women’s leadership in economic institutions; 📢 recognize engaging and financing women’s organizations as critical to addressing poverty; and 📢 call for the adoption of new development strategies towards sustainable economies, including strengthening inclusive and gender-responsive social protection systems and scaling up investment in the care economy. I'm ending CSW joyfully exhausted, in awe of Catarina Carvalho, our Intergovernmental Support team & our substantive leads Zohra Khan and Katherine Gifford, and grateful for all those fighting these two weeks and always for gender equality. 👉 UN Women's press release: https://lnkd.in/gAsQaxH6
