I've seen lately some really cool tutorials about how to export CSV and Alembic data from #Houdini to #PCG graph in Unreal. I was wondering what could be done with #Python remote execution and PCG data assets ( introduced by Epic Games in 5.4 ). I've really liked those PCG data assets lately, really well integrated in #Unreal content browser, and can be read easily as parameters in PCG graphs. Turns out, with a bit of Python and #Blueprints, you can have a live link between Houdini and Unreal and send the points cloud with just one node 😁. I really think that would be super useful to have that built-in the Houdini Engine C++ plugin directly ! ( SideFX Software 😉). The BFI has today announced grants of £510k for innovative projects supporting UK games development - and very proud to say we're one of four recipients. Our project is to build toolkit for self-publishing games, and it starts right now - with the toolkit going live in 2025. We'll will work with industry to build this new resource, with a cohort of studios working on an upcoming release and a suite of experts helping feed in. While it feels like there's more challenges than ever in our world, there are great things being done to help create more opportunities for everyone.

Bit late talking about this one but huge news coming from 343 Industries, both a re-brand to Halo Studios and confirmation that they are switching development to Unreal. 🗞️ This comes off the back of 343's struggles with development of Halo: Infinite. We've seen many other studios move away from their own engines to Unreal, notably CD Projekt Red! Are proprietary engines going out fashion? 🤔 For those who have worked on both proprietary engines and Unreal, what have you found to be the key advantages of working with Unreal? #gamedev #unreal #halo

What is Gaussian Splatting and what impact will it have on #VR training? Historically, VR scenes have been created using triangular or quad polygons that describe what everything in the scene looks like. Gaussian Splatting describes everything as stretched points that vary in color and transparency. 🔑 Key Benefit of Gaussian Splatting 🔑 : Photo-realistic looking scenes for VR can be generated from photos taken with regular cameras instead of using very expensive volumetric capture cameras. And this means high-quality scenes can be displayed in VR at much lower cost. Work is underway to provide the right network connection to deliver this to headsets without waiting for download sizes that are too large. I recently got to know about Xbox cloud gaming from Joshua Ajayi and understanding how it works and the technology around it has been awesome. It basically gives gamers access to a wide range of high-quality games to play using Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which bridges the gap of restrictions some players face due to low system specs, offering an experience similar to playing on a console. The interesting thing about this is it’s also available on Virtual Reality Headsets, allowing you to play your favorite games in VR. Unfortunately, this service is still in its beta stage and not available in certain regions. What do you think this means for game studios? How could it benefit them, and what potential barriers do you foresee from both a game studio and player’s perspective that could hinder its full potential? How cool is websim.ai??? 😅🕶️🎉 By using Anthropics Claude 3 models (choose between Opus, Sonnet and Haiku) websim.ai generates a website for you by just providing a URL and optional parameters. In my generative AI work, I rely on prompts as little as possible, preferring the vastly more precise control that visual guidance materials offer. However, this new model by Black Forest Labs, called Flux, is something else. It has remarkable prompt adherence and interpretive ability, even with abstract, hard-to-describe concepts that other models tend to turn into a jumbled mess. These alchemical elemental glyphs I tinkered with are entirely prompt-based, and the clarity and cleanliness of their execution are pretty impressive. #ai #artificialintelligence #aiart #aicc #generativeai #genai #digitalart
