I've worked with 50+ investment companies on lead-gen. 90% struggled with passing ad regulations. Here's 3 tips to ensure that your ads pass: 1. FCA - Google Ads to the UK need an FCA number - If you don't have one, run campaigns overseas to English speakers Want an up-to-date list on which countries you're allowed to target? ↳ Message me 'COUNTRY' and I'll send the top-performers over. 2. Ad content - Ads are not allowed to be misleading - Don't advertise any guarantees that you can't fulfill - Your content must be correct to your services/ products 3. Happy Monday all, it's a new week ahead and a great chance this week to drop a message to those customers you haven't spoken to in a while. If you’re in the SaaS space, you know how critical it is to keep an eye on Customer Lifetime Value (LTV). This isn’t just a metric, I believe having a keen focus on this is a game changer. LTV shows how much value your customers bring over their entire journey with you, and a high LTV means they’re engaged, satisfied, and sticking around for the long haul = more revenue to help scale your SaaS brand and to put back into acquiring new customers. 👌 I've previously worked in Senior Marketing roles focused on Customer Retention for SaaS brands and there are lots of ways you can keep your existing customers happy with some simple #automations and repurposing the content you already have. As when you focus on improving LTV, you’re not just investing in customer retention, you’re making smarter decisions on acquisition costs and scaling your business sustainably. So, let’s prioritise building lasting relationships and delivering value! Here are a few tactics I've previously used: - Regular #NPS Surveys to gain valuable feedback you can share with the Customer Success Managers (also Promoters are ideal for asking for a Review, Case Study, Testimonial, Referral Program, so it's a Win Win 🏆) - Triggered Automations on Features that are not being used (I've used a combination of Intercom and Segment for this, to trigger emails i.e. if things like email credits are running low or they have not used a particular feature, or have not logged into the App in a specific amount of time to give them a prompt and guidance) - Build an Online Training Course for your Solution (I previously used Thinkific and I literally took the information off our Support site and turned it into an easily digestible Course with a Quiz after each section, this gives you insight into if a customer gets stuck on a particular part, give badges after completion to empower them. Training Courses are also amazing for helping onboard new prospects when they are in the Trial period and free's up a lot of Support time) What strategies have you found effective for boosting LTV? The more I watch these wonderful Christmas ads the more I’m reminded that they're performance campaigns, not brand.   The ads are designed to reach in-market shoppers across a 5-week window in order to deliver short term sales. That’s the textbook definition of ‘performance’.     I don't say this as an insult, I say it as a compliment. It shows that performance marketing can use emotion and storytelling just as much as brand. That it’s possible to do both, at once.   Which begs the questions, do we really need to keep separating band and performance - or are these definitions just getting in the way of good integrated marketing?

I've spent the last 3 months rewriting Byword from the ground up. Why? As the use of article generators has grown, results pages have become more and more competitive. Simply having a relevant article isn't enough in 2024, when the costs of producing content have fallen dramatically and anyone can produce relevant content. 📣SMEs, don't miss this. It means at the very least the "purchase" pixel event will go away. I wouldn't be surprised if it was all events "off Meta", so you may only see click through rates. Who will this affect? More than you realise. For instance: ~ if you're a lifestyle or business coach who markets to a particular gender. "Business tips for Mompreneurs" etc. ~ if you're a health/wellness brand of any kind. ~ if you run lead generation for your accounting firm, mortgage broker, budgeting app. ~ if you run ecommerce to any product and say you're approved for the customer to use their NDIS funds to pay for the product or service. As the email mentions, it'll vary by region. It's Meta's usual form to roll things out, change them often, and leave businesses to scramble for a fix. If you're worried about how to advertise with less data, here's a strategy you can test: ~ create a bunch of videos: "how to", a founder story, customer experiences, tips, lifestyle. ~ run those at top of funnel ~ in your retargeting, use "video views" and retarget people who showed enough interest to watch a good percentage of your videos. * you can also create platform-specific codes so that if people use that code, it's likely they found you there (not a watertight solution, but it can help). * post-purchase surveys can help, but again, they're not watertight. People make shit up. They'll say they found you "on google" when it was a FB ad, because they feel like they're just on the internet ;) I'll watch to see how this impacts UTM tags, so we have a better idea of whether it's just pixel events or more that will go away.

Brilliant event last night with Storyblok overlooking the Thames River in London, the content was super relevant and informative. Probably more cutting edge than most SEO conferences I’ve been to. 😅 Highlight was Thomas Peham unpacking some ideas on how to index your content for LLMs. Running a Headless CMS that’s SEO friendly is a great way to ensure you’ve got the best chance of appearing inside AI generated resources by optimizing for crawling. He also addressed should you make AI generated content inside your CMS? Whatever you do, remember at the end of the day - “Brand wins” 💡

Well first, let’s get one thing straight: open rates are garbage They are about as reliable as a bin bag with a huge hole in it. Email marketing using behavioural and specific targeting should not be about getting people to just open your email. It’s about getting your audience to: – Engage with your brand – Recognise your brand as ‘not another annoying brand sending me annoying emails’ – Feel heard and seen – Associate your brand with positive emotions I use behavioural email targeting in all of my email campaigns (well, our clients’) and through experimenting with simple to the most intricate segments and targeting We’ve found: – When you use behaviour to not only trigger an email but instead as insight to get into the head of your subscriber, your email goes to another level. Here’s an example ⚠️ Let’s say I just downloaded a brochure online from an independent kitchen retailer and it was called ‘Kitchen Inspiration 2024’. Most marketers and businesses go wrong here; they call this a ‘lead’. It’s really not. This behaviour is often mistreated by brands and then it triggers some sort of sales & marketing process that hounds people with ready-to-buy content and sales calls. What this behaviour tells us is that: – This person is really invested in 2024 kitchen trends – This person MIGHT be looking into a new kitchen at some point in the future – This person cares about their kitchen and the way it looks and feels – This person isn’t ready to buy 📩 Now, using that insight from behaviour changes the strategy. The messages are tailored using behaviour but informed by insight to craft compelling messages and emails sent at the right time to talk more about 2024 kitchen trends and inspiration. This includes getting real on: 👍 The new kitchen process 👍 Providing a link to the brand's Pinterest board for lots more inspiration 👍 Sharing a message on how this kitchen company crafts designs and takes a look inside None of this is sales. It’s called nurturing Stop using behaviour to get opens on your emails and start using behaviour to build relationships. This was my contribution piece to the marketer interview's website last week! How to cut your spend in half (whilst getting double the results) Distribute your messaging intentionally Do it 3 ways: 1. Segment your champions → Solo CTOs at early stage companies → Solo Dev → Solo founder (most likely technical) 2. Top of funnel (ads, content etc.) Ads: make it ABUNDANTLY clear who you’re targeting Example: “Solo CTO at a startup?” Content: make sure your content is SOLEY helping champions Lead magnets: get champions into your ecosystem by getting them a quick win NOBODY else will download, click or engage UNLESS it’s your champion Less $$$ spent on dud leads. 3. Bottom funnel → One landing page for Solo CTO → One landing page for Solo Dev → One landing page for Solo Founder Then use retargeting ads, webinars, LinkedIn dms to get them aware of your offer (Your ads, lead magnets & content will naturally nurture them during the funnel + some might convert anyway) Tip: You can reuse the same structure. Just replace the problems, replace the solutions
