It’s always rewarding to see our designs come to life. Today, we’re celebrating the incredible work of Wood Thilsted’s #SecondaryStructures team. As part of RWE’s #ThorProject – set to power over 1 million homes with clean, renewable energy – Wood Thilsted designed the concrete platforms now ready for mock-up testing before offshore installation off the coast of Denmark. Here’s what makes this achievement special: ✅ A TP-less Solution: Building on our monopile design, we developed innovative connections back to the monopiles, reducing manual handling to enhance #safety and #efficiency for operators. ✅ Seamless Collaboration: We continue to support AARSLEFF BIZ Sp. z o. o. during the fabrication phase, ensuring the platforms are ready to meet the demands of this significant offshore wind project. We’re proud to contribute to the success of the Thor Project and grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with RWE and all project partners. Seeing these platforms move toward operation is a testament to the teamwork and engineering excellence that drive the energy transition. #OffshoreWind #EngineeringInnovation #OneTeam #Collaboration #DesigningTheGlobalEnergyTransition Will Hancock Alastair Muir Wood Stefan Emil Steffensen Christian LeBlanc Thilsted Morten Dahl Nielsen Martin Bjerre Nielsen Johan Hodal Meincke
We are ongoing with production of Main Access Platforms for THOR offshore wind farm for Penglai Dajin Offshore Heavy Industry Co. Limited. RWE, which is the end Client, will build Thor offshore wind farm in the Danish North Sea, on the west coast of Jutland, approximately 22 kilometres from Thorsminde in the municipality of Holstebro. With a planned capacity of more than 1,000 MW, Thor is Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm to date. Until today we have casted 62 pcs out of 72 pcs platforms in the project. We are outfitting platforms with aluminium railings and accessories, mounting and load testing davit cranes and installing upper ladder and low voltage cables and equipment. In October 2024 we have succesfully performed First Article Inspection on the 1st fully equipped platform. Afterwards we have organised the transport and deliver the 1st platform to Szczecin where the mock-up tests will be done on the monopile. The FOB delivery of platforms is scheduled between March and May 2025. 🌍 Wood Thilsted launches Joint Industry Project to drive Nature Inclusivity in offshore wind design! 🌊 We're thrilled to announce a landmark Joint Industry Project (#JIP) focused on advancing Nature Inclusivity in offshore wind farm design. This collaborative effort aims to explore and redefine what it means to create offshore wind farms that positively impact natural ecosystems throughout their lifecycle. 🌱 Why does this matter? As global energy systems shift towards renewable sources like offshore wind, balancing climate resilience with ecosystem health is essential. Regulatory changes are echoing this need, with new standards emerging across Europe that promote both climate and nature benefits in offshore wind projects. In the words of our Director of Sustainability and Chair of the JIP, Danny Bonnett: “It’s no longer enough to merely minimise harm; we must move towards creating measurable, positive impacts on biodiversity and natural systems. This project is a crucial step toward integrating regenerative principles into offshore wind farm design.” 🔍 What's next? The JIP will cover every phase of wind farm development, from planning and construction to decommissioning, and will welcome additional collaborators from across the offshore wind value chain. If you’re interested in joining the effort to meet this generational challenge, contact us at [email protected] to learn more and get involved!
