And that’s a wrap on #RESource2024 I’m both exhausted and energised (pun intended) after a fantastic week connecting with familiar and new faces to discuss the enticing world of PPAs and their role in corporate renewable energy sourcing. I was delighted to hear the growing interest in non-price factors in PPAs across the sector and how we can tackle climate change, while also delivering for people and nature. A shoutout to Ornella Nicolacci (Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA)) for moderating an insightful panel on “Purpose-driven clean energy procurement”, with representation from across the whole value chain. During the panel, our wonderful Renewable Energy Programme Director Elif Gündüzyeli (The Nature Conservancy) talked very clearly about the need for a 3C (Climate, Conservation, Communities) approach with a robust call to action, along with some great input from SSE Renewables, Microsoft and 3Degrees. The session was hosted right before lunch, in a full room, and with continuous questions rolling in. This alone I believe speaks volumes about the growing appetite (another pun intended) in the topic. My main takeaways from the week: -The sector is full of passionate people who want to make a difference, but clear standards/guidance/KPIs in the procurement process are missing, and harmonisation will be key to adoption and implementation. -There are many barriers and burdens recognised, but there are also enablers such as benefits sharing and incentives. Demonstrating success stories and clear strategic communication is therefore vital in achieving the scale and pace needed. -What’s next? Something I heard a lot throughout the conference which excites me about convergence and future collaborations. And to round off, a huge congratulations to Annie Scanlan and the RE-Source Platform for organising a fantastic event! 👏 #renewables #climatechange #nature #biodiversity #communityimpact
Today, our Renewable Energy Programme Director Elif Gündüzyeli attended the RE-Source Platform annual event in Amsterdam, participating in a panel discussion with other renewable energy experts on how suppliers can incorporate environmental, social and resilience values into their offer for purpose-driven clean energy procurement. She was clear in her message of the importance of having non-price criteria for nature and communities in renewables development to enable a race to the top when tackling climate change. 👉 Learn more about our work to accelerate the energy transition in Europe and from Europe: https://nature.ly/4fjYEtW #RESource2024

Yesterday evening I attended Young Energy Professionals Network (YEPN) NZ’s thought-provoking panel event “Powering up the Energy Transition”, hosted at Simpson Grierson and organised by our own Kitty Lin. The panellists shared valuable insights into the consenting and regulatory opportunities and challenges faced by the sector and consumers. We also heard from SG energy and renewables experts Tara Wylie and Rob Macredie. A key takeaway was that collaboration (across industries, within the sector, and between regulators and developers) is crucial to achieving our net-zero carbon goals and securing a prosperous and sustainable future for Aotearoa. You can read SG’s latest Energy Outlook for expert legal commentary and analysis on emerging renewable energy trends here: https://lnkd.in/g-eVJvxu Our June edition covers topics including: * the new Government's policies and their impacts; * the Fast-Track Approvals Bill; * preventing modern slavery; and * the future of offshore wind.
