The principles that the JIP are based on are: -> to stand on the shoulders of others, building on the broad body of work already done; -> to disseminate this work by others providing a play book of options for developers and designers; -> to look for gaps in the nature inclusive palette and consider how to fill those gaps; -> to find opportunities to demonstrate ideas/methods/technologies and get them ready for use as fast as possible. At every stage, we're looking to disseminate our findings, and move quickly to a world where offshore wind is good for nature. True sustainability requires a balance between climate, nature, business, people and communities, among others. Today, so much 'sustainability' focus is directed towards climate - and rightly so - but climate actions cannot be to the detriment of the natural world. Danny Bonnett captures it perfectly: "It's no longer enough to merely minimise harm; we must move towards creating measurable, positive impacts on biodiversity and natural systems." 🌊 Collaborating to drive nature-inclusive design in offshore wind 🌿   We’re proud to join a transformative Joint Industry Project (JIP) that redefines nature inclusivity in offshore wind farm design. 'Fish Hotels' and Artificial Reefs: Pioneering Concepts for Biodiversity-Friendly Offshore Wind Farms As the global push for clean energy accelerates, the future of offshore wind farms is being shaped by innovative ideas aimed at protecting marine life. Proposals like 'fish hotels' and artificial coral reefs are emerging as key strategies to enhance the biodiversity of these underwater energy sites. Developers are now being encouraged to incorporate these nature-inclusive designs to ensure that wind farms contribute positively to the marine ecosystem, rather than disrupt it. With environmental impact assessments and tender processes increasingly prioritising sustainability, these initiatives could be crucial in getting projects off the ground. A new report from the Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council (SOWEC), part of the Collaboration for Environmental Mitigation & Nature Inclusive Design (CEMNID) project, offers practical guidance on how developers can go above and beyond in protecting aquatic life while advancing renewable energy. "Offshore wind will be the backbone of our clean energy future, but we also have to ensure it works for nature too," says Duncan Smart of ScottishPower Renewables. These pioneering concepts are setting a new standard for the sustainable development of offshore wind farms, ensuring that the pursuit of green energy goes hand in hand with the protection of our oceans. The CEC Clean Energy Summit took place in Sydney and DP Energy Group’s Hugh Cantwell, Head of Development for Australia, Lachlan Giles, Environment and Development Manager, and Gabrielle P., Development Manager for the Callide Wind Farm in Queensland, all attended.   As an industry, we have made world-leading progress in the energy transition in Australia, but there is still a long journey ahead. We need to maintain our momentum, and there is a growing acknowledgment of the need for long-term policy consistency across government cycles.   It is encouraging to see the current Australian government seeking to support and accelerate this energy transition through suitable policy settings like the Capital Investment Scheme. Mitigation of environmental impact is improving, with useful examples of progress in biodiversity impact management and even projects achieving a net biodiversity benefit.
