🎉 The Clean Water Sports Alliance, which Paddle UK is part of, has won the Sport for Change Award at the Sport Journalists Association (SJA) Awards 2024. It tops off an amazing first year for the alliance which represents 450,000 members, athletes and millions of participants and water users who are impacted each day by poor water quality and pollution. Sky Sports’ Johnny Phillips and Altair director of sport Emma Atkins, said the Alliance was a "blueprint for other sports organisations to follow as we seek to increase the positive impact of sport on people." We caught up with Phil Brickell MP to hear about his lifelong passion for kayaking and how his first-hand experience on our rivers has influenced his work as an MP. In his recent speech in Parliament, Phil emphasised the importance of public access rights to the countryside and waterways. He highlighted the vital role recreational users play as custodians of our waterways, contributing to their upkeep and ensuring responsible access.

Last week, we were proud to host our second annual safety conference, bringing together over 70 delegates from across the paddlesport sector. Building on the success of last year’s conference, the day focused on how we can collectively reach and influence those heading out on the water, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions and keep safe. We also reflected on the positive impact of our joint #PaddleSafe campaign with the RNLI which saw our messaging refined for 2024.
