The North West Biotech Initiative (NWBI) provides a platform that encourages knowledge sharing and dialogue between young students, local and international businesses and industry experts. We promote the development of early stage researchers in the STEM fields by providing an inclusive space for fostering relationships between academia and the growing local biotech sector. This provides students the power of choice; to choose a career path based on interest and passion and not due to a lack of skills or opportunities. Thus, students will be prepared to apply in-demand professional skills in any arena and sector they choose to pursue in life beyond their academic institutions.

A huge thank you to our speakers Lucy Frost, Oana Rosu and Davinder Kular, who provided invaluable insights on their unconventional career paths in the Biosciences. Many students in the Biosciences are unaware of how many career opportunities exist outside of lab-based jobs. Through this webinar, our attendees were able to understand the academic and professional pathways taken by our speakers to pursue careers in Data Visualisation, Regulatory Affairs and Medical Devices Sales. Congratulations to the winners of the NWBI Consulting Case Competition 2024!!! 🎉🎉🎉 🏆🏆🏆 🥇Patient Bridge Consulting 🥈Opti-Gals 🥉Elixara The judges were impressed with the quality of the finalist presentations, showcasing innovative ideas and outstanding research that highlight the future of biotechnology! A huge thanks to the judges, speakers and mentors Catherine Castillo, Nick Proctor, Louisa Oliver Byrne, Fatima C., Isabel Rubio, Poppy Payne and Thomas Jennison. Your insightful talks, evaluation of each presentation and valuable feedback played a key role in making the event a success. Thank you for your commitment to bringing innovation to the North-West! This year, the event saw a 76% increase in applications compared with the 2023 competition, and a 40% increase in the turnout for the Consulting networking event compared with our last event (2022), with a total of 105 attendees who enjoyed free pizza and drinks to celebrate the event’s success!
