Is there guarantee for golden handshakes or severance pay? 🤝 💰 The short answer is no. For context, in Singapore, severance pay (also known as retrenchment benefits) is not mandatory by law. However, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) strongly encourages employers to follow Responsible Retrenchment Practices. These guidelines recommend providing severance pay to help employees transition after retrenchment. The story and learning point: I recently consulted a client who was "suddenly" terminated by his company after a relatively long stretch of service. The company did not provide a clear reason to the termination and while he can take steps to confront this seemingly unjust termination, there is really little he can do especially if the company is facing financial difficulty and downsizing. Such cases are rare but you wouldn't want to be the helpless "victim". To be upfront, my take is that the onus rests on the individual and if you haven't wrapped your head around this, I will say it clear. Companies prioritize business' bottom line. If that bottom line is breached, everything goes out of the window. It's probably too late to cry over spilled milk then. Solution: Invest in yourself. Learn, upskill and constantly challenge for roles that stretch your abilities. That's how you remain employable even if a curveball strikes. P.S. Reach out for coaching to understand what you can do. Especially for senior professionals, this is the first base you want to protect.

Write that Thank You email! 📩 It baffles me every time that people don't think of thanking their interviewers after the interview. Maybe times have changed but... all it takes is a simple email that is not born out of formality. Don't procrastinate. That email has a shelf life of 18-24 hours. Sending it anytime later than that is as good as not sending it. I stick by this guideline after years of observing my clients' results. That's why I never hesitate to advise and coach my clients to do so. Some resisted but those who did achieved better outcomes. The fact is job offers are not guaranteed with a thank you email, but there is massive advantage in sending it. It reflects gratefulness, a positive mentality and your EQ. The best result comes from those who send the email without any reminders from me. These are the ones who demonstrate a powerful mentality of progress. I would smile because I know they would get the job offer. p.s. It takes 5 minutes to write a thank you email. The ROI is a probable 20% increase in salary. Why not❔ #thankyouemail #interviewtips #coaching

I endorsed this message. 👇 This is a proven commandment for CV. Single column, black and white. Keep it simple and clear for recruiters - that's the winning strategy. p.s. DM for help with your CV. LinkedIn's Easy Apply. Is it really EASY? In a way it is easy because your basic information on LinkedIn is preloaded. ✅This means you need to maintain an updated LinkedIn profile, or the information that is parsed through won't be the best or relevant at all. ✅You still need a CV as part of the application process, so it makes sense to invest time to build a credible CV that highlights your milestone achievements (which are usually not shared on LinkedIn). Don't skim on this. Your CV is the key to opportunities. ✅ Cover letter. If you have one, you can add in during the Easy Apply process. It's optional but if you decide to include, please don't send a generic version. High chance you may overlook and end up not removing certain irrelevant details that were meant for a previous application. Conclusion -> Easy Apply requires you keep in tip top condition for your CV and LinkedIn profile, the two cornerstones for modern career people. #EasyApply #LinkedIn #CV #LinkedInProfile #Coaching

Some CVs get passed over in less than 5 seconds. 🤔 The main culprit is always the visual formatting. The lack of visual appeal creates an immediate tendency to stop reading further, leading to a double KO situation. Both sides lose. Reviewers can be surface deep due to time constraints, but it won't advance your purpose much to confirm this fact. "Better" is to improve your CV, and close the loop. The best CV format is a 1 to 2 pager. I explained previously why anything more than page 1 may not even be seriously reviewed, so you want to throw your knockout punch on page 1. 🥊 Here's a tip. If it is a 2 pager, do not be less than 75% filled on page 2. Aesthetics matter and the repeating of content just to fill space is not a good solution! Plan well and write your CV in under 3 hours. I show you how in this step by step guide --> https://lnkd.in/gvT_6VuM Need further help? DM Joo Kwang for details. P.S. A few DMs arrived. "I'm interested but why does it take 3 hours to create a CV?" Truth be told. I do it in 30 minutes. But it has limited bite unless your original copy is filled with meaningful content. What 30 minutes produced is a CV that is ATS friendly and aesthetically pleasing. In short, it covers the ATS requirement for keywords, and it is visually pleasing to inspire the reader to draw in. The remaining 2.5 hours is researching and recalling what you achieved in terms of milestones and WHY these milestones matter to your job application. You can't fake these. That's why and where most people fizzle out because it takes intensity to extract the essence from your work. A CV works like a book. Some are best sellers and some are just there on the shelves. It's what you put into it. I teach people how to do that and if they want speed, I do the heavy lifting first but every client will walk away not just with a piece of improved CV but the understanding of how to sell their relevance and spark on paper. X-factor. Out of the blue, I texted a client yesterday asking how he was managing after the layoff. 📲 He told me he got a new role and would be starting in Jan 2025. 🥂 Now this client was commanding a senior APAC role and for him to turnaround so quickly to another senior position is nothing short of amazing but... ...I wasn't surprised. He found me on LinkedIn and I only worked with him on his CV. No doubt that CV helped to open doors but it was his "get it done" intensity that put him on top. He was a man of his words and what he said he would do, he did it swiftly like a sword cutting through the water or bean curd (whichever you like). People who deliver on their promises - they get it. There are 2 things I want to share for the sake of encouraging those who read this. 1. A good CV opens doors. Work on it. 2. Understand that the heavy lifting is delivering in person (interviews) who you claimed you are. This can be coached as well, but some people have it because they have spared no efforts honing themselves throughout their career. I'm happy for my client. The credit is his' entirely and I'm glad to be part of that journey. p.s. Make yourself. That's the best ROI for achieving what you want. Image Credit: Google

Referrals don't always work out well. Sometimes they come with disastrous results. That is why I learn to fact-check my referrals. This is not to discount them but to ensure they are safe to work with. Companies shouldn't let their guard down when considering hiring referrals. Due diligence...that's what I'm saying. #Recruitment #Referrals

I believe the difference we can make today lies in bridging the idea we have and taking action upon that. This is the difference I bring when we work together. I am an advocate for action, I vibe with people who demonstrate rigor because they believe taking action despite unfavorable conditions bring them results over time and I have seen these clients succeed on many fronts. They won my respect and I'm proud of them. If you want a new start for Dec 2024, DM for a chat to explore working together on achieving career progression. (Image credit: LinkedIn) #CareerChange
