Jennifer Lopez's Unusual Divorce Filing Says 'I'm Filing and I'm Doing It on My Own': Legal Source (Exclusive) Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck after more than two years of marriage on Tuesday, Aug. 20. The “Love Don’t Cost A Thing” singer filed without a lawyer in Los Angeles County Superior Court, and listed April 26, 2024 as the date of separation. "I think that she most likely just wanted to get this done, [that] there was a lot of hesitation and hemming and hawing back and forth, and it's a statement, 'I'm moving forward, I'm filing and I'm doing it on my own,' " Marilyn Chinitz, matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP, told PEOPLE when explaining Lopez's unusual decision to file without the help of a counsel. The date of Lopez’s filing also coincided with the second anniversary of the couple's wedding ceremony in Georgia. The latter event came just over a month after she and Affleck tied the knot in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022. "She was done waiting and the date she [filed on] speaks a ton," a source told PEOPLE. It's gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself," the insider added.
