The couple — who met and got engaged on The Golden Bachelor last year and then wed on live TV in January — divorced after just three months of marriage in April, shocking Bachelor Nation fans. Now, Nist, 71, is revealing that distance wasn't the only factor that led to their breakup. Turner, 72, lives in Indiana while Nist lives in New Jersey, and at the time of their divorce announcement, they said that the distance proved to be a problem as they were both "so dedicated" to their families and that led to challenges choosing a place to live. I'll just say that." "I don't wanna say any more than that," she continued, though she did concede that it was "not just the location thing" that prompted their divorce. "So we're driving from the airport and it was like three hours and we're getting closer to Gerry's house," she recalled. "So I see this open land — I don't see crops, I just think it's flat land — and I go, 'Oh wow, you could build townhomes there!' That's all I said. And Gerry said, 'Oh, so you wanna take the farmer's land away from him?' I go, 'Note to self, don't say that again.'" Nist said her comment sparked a larger conversation about the couple's differing views on land, which wasn't her intention, as Turner allegedly got defensive over farmland being protected in the Midwest. Nist also admitted that their original plan had been to move near Charleston, South Carolina. She said they had been "looking at homes virtually" since they were still living apart and Nist was "still working full-time," but they "never got to the point where we found a home." She claimed Turner then "came up with the idea of doing six weeks there and six weeks here," but Nist "truly wanted to have our home together." Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist's Relationship Timeline, from Golden Bachelor to Divorce "I was willing to move. I wanted to have our big home where our family could come visit us," she said. "That was my idea because that's what we had agreed upon." "And then I guess, he loves his house and I don't blame him. He loves where he lives and... I want him to be happy," she continued, but she reiterated that the plan they'd agreed upon "did change." "It wasn't what we had discussed. We had never discussed six weeks here, six weeks there," she added. Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist at the official launch of Hulu on Disney+. The former couple settled their divorce in June after Turner filed just hours after the divorce announcement aired on Good Morning America. Nist previously called her time on The Golden Bachelor "one of the most incredible experiences of my life” and “something I never expected to happen at this point in my life" in her first Instagram post after the divorce news. “I truly thought it was going to last forever,” she wrote. “It turns out, even at the age of 70, you don’t know everything. Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned and that’s okay.” Close
