Jimmie Allen and ex-wife Alexis' divorce has been finalized.

Over one year after filing in April 2023, the divorce was granted on Oct. 1 in Delaware's Sussex County, PEOPLE confirms.

An attorney for Allen did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Allen, 39, and Alexis, 28, tied the knot privately in June 2020 and again publicly in May 2021. They share two daughters, Naomi Bettie, 4½, and Zara James, 3, as well as son Cohen Ace James, 13 months.

In April 2023, Allen shared a statement on Instagram announcing that he and Alexis, a registered nurse, had decided to end their marriage.

"After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate," he said. At the time, he also revealed they were expecting a third child together.

"As we navigate this life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year," Allen wrote. "Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect for one another."

Shortly after the announcement, Alexis shared a cryptic note on her Instagram Stories.

"The silence is loud enough for me," she wrote.

One month later, the "Best Shot" singer was sued by his former day-to-day manager, alleging that he sexually abused her on several occasions.

In the lawsuit, his former manager, who was identified as Jane Doe in the court documents, claimed that he raped her on a work trip to Los Angeles in March 2021. Then, in May 2021, she claims the Grammy-nominated singer allegedly assaulted her again before appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Allen denied the allegations and claims in a statement to PEOPLE.

"It is deeply troubling and hurtful that someone I counted as one of my closest friends, colleagues and confidants would make allegations that have no truth to them whatsoever," he said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Allen continued: "I acknowledge that we had a sexual relationship — one that lasted for nearly two years. During that time, she never once accused me of any wrongdoing, and she spoke of our relationship and friendship as being something she wanted to continue indefinitely. Only after things ended between us, did she hire a lawyer to reach out and ask for money, which leads me to question her motives. The simple fact is, her accusations are not only false, but also extremely damaging. I've worked incredibly hard to build my career, and I intend to mount a vigorous defense to her claims and take all other legal action necessary to protect my reputation."

Before the lawsuit, Alexis posted a message on her Instagram Story alluding to the fact that people were trying to corroborate Jane Doe's story.

"Continue the chaos while I heal in peace," she wrote. "My Instagram isn't a help line so please stop messaging me about any third parties."

His former manager ultimately agreed to drop the claims against the country star after reaching a "mutual accord," according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In May 2023, PEOPLE confirmed that Allen filed for divorce from Alexis in Williamson County, Tennessee, on April 28, 2023. Two hours later, she submitted her own petition for divorce. Both cited irreconcilable differences.

Later that month, Allen apologized to Alexis for "humiliating her with my affair" in an Instagram post.

"I'm embarrassed that my choices have brought shame on her. That's something that she did not deserve at all," the Grammy-nominated singer's note read.

He also apologized to his children "for being a poor example of a man and a father," adding, "I'm working on becoming a better person that my kids can be proud of."

In July of that year, Allen hinted at a possible reconciliation in conversation with PEOPLE: "The divorce case is still pending, as my wife and I are working to resolve things together as a family," he said.

Three months later a rep for Allen told PEOPLE, "[The divorce] was never fully seen through legally."

"They decided to work on things together and are still together," the rep continued.

Then, in March 2024, Allen revealed that he had welcomed twins, Amari and Aria, with another woman while married to Alexis. They arrived in July 2023.

"I have six kids. I love each one of them. I refuse to let anyone make me feel ashamed of any of my children. The only opinion I care about is theirs," he wrote.

In a sit-down interview with Kathie Lee Gifford in April, he opened up about his relationship with Alexis.

"When I got married, I knew I wasn't ready to be a husband,” he said. “Prioritizing my wife’s needs over my career — I wasn’t in a place to do that, and I felt like I wasn’t in a place for faithfulness either."
