The legendary singer and civil rights activist will turn 85 with a celebratory All-Star Birthday Concert in Los Angeles, she announced on Monday. Staples will hit the stage herself, but will also be joined by Chris Stapleton, Hozier, Jackson Browne, Norah Jones, Jeff Tweedy, Black Pumas, Grace Potter, Michael McDonald, Keb’ Mo’, Nathaniel Rateliff, Robert Randolph, Taj Mahal and The War and Treaty. “Honored to celebrate my birthday with this incredible lineup at the @youtubetheater on April 18th 2024,” she wrote on Instagram. “Join us for an unforgettable night of music with me and my friends!” She features on Hozier’s song “Nina Cried Power,” and has toured with Jones, and duetted with Potter, McDonald, Stapleton and more. Tweedy produced her Grammy-winning 2010 album You Are Not Alone, as well as her 2017 album If All I Was Was Black. “Absolutely honoured to be joining this incredible lineup as we celebrate the true hero and legend that is @mavisstaples on her 85th birthday. Cannot wait!” Hozier wrote on X. Staples’ fête will take place at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California on April 18, several months before her July 10 birthday.
