Carly Pearce is opening up about how she celebrated becoming a two-time Grammy nominee.

The country star, 33, who took home the award for best country duo/group performance last year for her song "Never Wanted to Be That Girl” with Ashley McBryde, is up in the same category this year —though this time around for “We Don't Fight Anymore" with Chris Stapleton

Pearce says that she “purposely” didn’t tune in to hear the nominations announced live, but was given the big news by her manager who called and said “Hey, Grammy nominee.”

“And then Chris and his sweet wife Morgane — who is the reason that I got Chris on the song — they FaceTimed me and we had this little moment and it was just awesome,” she says. “I mean, these are just huge gifts that you're given as a songwriter and as an artist, and it's just kind of mind-blowing.”

Pearce remembers that when she decided she wanted to ask Stapleton to be featured on the song, instead of going through their publicists or labels, she wanted to take a more personal approach.

“I am very particular about how I approach another artist to do something with me. And I didn't want it to be where our record labels got involved or anything like that. I wanted it to be authentic to us,” she explains.

She said because of a pre-existing relationship she had with Stapleton’s wife, she decided to reach out to her directly over Instagram.

“I said, ‘Hey, I'm sure you get this all the time, but I have this song that I really feel like Chris is supposed to be a part of. Do you care if I send it to you?'” she recalls, explaining that Morgane asked if the couple could be “honest” as they do receive lots of similar requests.

“‘Absolutely, I understand completely,” she recalls telling them. “[I] just wanted him to hear it.”

The rest, of course, is history.

Pearce had previously opened up to PEOPLE about the collaboration and how much it meant to have him on the song.

"He's been my dream collaboration, and for it to have happened like this and so organically, just feels really, really meant to be," she said before the song was released. "I feel like it's a whole new era. It's a whole new chapter."

The 66th Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
