TAS2024/Getty As previously reported, the pop star duo teamed up on Saturday for an unexpected mashup of Carpenter's songs "Espresso" and "Please, Please Please," as well as Swift's track "Is It Over Now?" Naturally, Carpenter's cameo took place during Swift's surprise songs portion of the show, when Swift, 34, put her friend "on speakerphone" before asking her to "come down to the stadium real quick" in front of the crowd. Well, Carpenter did just that, and the surprise marked a full-circle moment for the singer, who is coming off a milestone summer of music charting success. Carpenter previously performed as a supporting act during the Eras Tour — when she joined Swift at her shows in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia and Singapore. She also previously duetted with Swift in Sydney for a medley of the songs "White Horse" and "Coney Island" earlier in the year. Back in August, Carpenter opened up about her “best, best” friendship with Swift for a Variety cover story, calling the "Anti-Hero" singer a “rock star." She also spoke with CBS Sunday Morning earlier this month about Swift's ongoing support after opening for her months back. “You just watch her, like, walk in a room and it’s very easy to understand that she’s so composed, she’s graceful, she’s gracious,” Carpenter told the outlet. Carpenter also shared some advice she received from the megastar. “I wouldn’t say it’s, like, a verbal thing as much as just, like, she’s very supportive of me and knows who I am as a person and is very supportive of that. So I’m grateful for that."
