Jerry O'Connell Responds to Fan Surprised to Learn 'Fat Kid from Stand by Me’ Married X-Men’s Mystique

Jerry O'Connell has a candid response ready for those surprised he’s married to Rebecca Romijn. 

A user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote O’Connell, 50, a somewhat forward reply to a post from the actor consisting of pictures of him and Romijn, 51. “Wait you’re married to her? The fat kid from Stand By Me is married to Mystique?” the X user wrote.

“Not what went out on our wedding invitations but yes. Yes I am,” quipped O’Connell, quote-tweeting the post referring to him as a "fat kid."

O’Connell had a breakout role in 1986 coming-of-age classic Stand by Me as Vern Tessio. Romijn, meanwhile, played the superhero Mystique in X-Men (2000), X2 (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). She also had a cameo in X-Men: First Class (2011).

The original post from the host of CBS' The Talk also poked fun at negative comments made about him on X. The four images O’Connell posted included a screenshot of a user criticizing his untrimmed eyebrows, apparently prompting him to enlist his wife’s help in tweezing them beyond recognition. 

“So sick of this hate,” he wrote in the post. “Finally got @RebeccaRomijn to deal with it. You like?”

O’Connell and Romijn tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Los Angeles in July 2007 after meeting in 2004.

“I get very nervous when I have to take my wedding ring off,” O’Connell told PEOPLE later that year. “But I have to everyday at work, so I safety pin it to my underwear so I’ll never forget it.”

The happy couple share twin daughters, 16-year-olds Dolly and Charlie. The proud parents celebrated the kids’ birthday in September. 

O'Connell is featured as one of the voice actors on Paramount+ series Star Trek: Lower Decks. Romijn most recently starred in another Star Trek series, Strange New Worlds.
