Jane Seymour is opening up about her intimacy with boyfriend John Zambetti.

The actress, 72, got candid about the couple's fulfilling sex life in a new essay for Cosmopolitan, sharing, "Sex right now is more wonderful and passionate than anything I ever remember because it is built on trust, love and experience."

"I now know myself and my body, and John has had his own experiences in his life — it’s not like when you’re younger," she continued. "I suppose among younger generations, people have sex first and then say, 'Oh, by the way, hello. How do you do?' "

But for Seymour, "The older I get, the more sex is built on emotional intimacy, on having shared the ups and downs of life with someone — our feelings, our joys, our sadness, our mutual passions, and desire."

The Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman alum made her relationship with Zambetti, a musician, Instagram official this past October, sharing a pair of photos with her beau that she captioned simply, "I’ve never been happier. 🥰.”

In her essay for Cosmopolitan, Seymour expanded on the idea of intimacy later in life, saying that after the age of 60, "you come to realize that" it "can also be self-serving."

"I’ve spoken with friends whose spouses have passed away and whose doctors have said, 'Now it’s time for you to learn to be intimate with yourself,' " she wrote. "Sure, loving touch changes according to what abilities you have physically as you age, but it’s certainly not something you give up just because you’re a certain age."

"Your sex life doesn’t need to end at 60," the former Bond girl continued. "At the end of the day, everyone is looking for something that puts blood into a certain area."

"When you can figure that out, well, you’re going to be a happy camper. (And bonus: You’re not going to get pregnant, right?)" Seymour joked.

Seymour previously told PEOPLE that her new relationship has been "absolutely fantastic" so far.

“I am having the happiest time of my life. In many ways,” the actress admitted.

She also shared that she and Zambetti have a romantic tradition of celebrating their anniversary every month since getting together.

“This time in life, you're not going to wait 50 years, are you?” Seymour said.

The actress has been married and divorced four times. She shares children Katherine, 41, and Sean Flynn, 38, with ex-husband David Flynn, and also shares twin sons John Stacy and Kristopher Steven, 27, with ex-husband James Keach.
