Reaching preschool kids Iene Miene Media (2023) researched the media usage of preschool kids aged 0-6 years in the Netherlands. It turned out that 0-1 year-olds mainly watch (smart) TV in a day. Among 2-3 year-olds, watching on mobile, tablet, or laptop is becoming increasingly more popular, and there is a significant growth in gaming as a daily activity among 4-6 year-olds. When you think about reaching preschool kids, you naturally also think about reaching their parents. Three-quarters of parents indeed remotely monitor what their child does with digital media (Netwerk Mediawijsheid, 2023). This is also called co-viewing. The deep tech sector can have a large impact on the future of the Dutch 🇳🇱 economy. I'm not optimistic about our current prospects. That is why together with other high growth scale ups we call on the government to start taking scaling up our technology industry seriously. Our future welfare will depend on creating the next ASML, Philips and Shell. This is what we need: 1. Have a long term view, and be consistent To make a difference we need an economic policy that values new company creation and we can rely on for the next 5-10 years. Dutch government policy has been inconsistent, slow and frankly hampering growth. The 30% ruling recently is a beautiful example. For me personally, it has led to increasing our investment in our location outside of the Netherlands. 2. If you decide to invest, take more risk When it comes to programs aimed at accelerating scale ups in technology, policy is aimed at reducing risk by introducing a ridiculous amount of bureaucracy. As a deep tech founder in the Netherlands I can currently only advise founders to avoid the Dutch government whenever you can. We need to make decisions, we need to take a risk, we need to remove the theater around innovation and actually trust founders that we believe can change the future to run as fast as they can. See what is happening in France right now with Mistral AI, Bioptimus. 3. Remove obstacles and get out of the way Building a company in the Netherlands is like running through the mud with clogs on. As a startup you need to move fast. If every day you move 1% slower than your international competitors you dont win. Opening a bank account in NL - took me 3 months. Hiring a fantastic ML researcher from the US? Took me 2 months. Not being able to provide a competitive offer as US taxes stock options differently? - Lost a great hire. Its not 1 particular rule. We need a mindset change to actually start removing obstacles for founders. Bureaucracy and lack of urgency is slowing us down enormously. We are 10 entrepreneurs with very fast-growing and impactful businesses and we would like to unite our voice, explain what we need and what it can be achieved for a better future of the Netherlands, with a large and positive impact at global scale. The Netherlands Consulate brought female founders to LA last week to share awesome elevator pitches as consumer product, media and social network entrepreneurs. We also shared insights on LA's business environment; and some of our favorite secret spots with them.   Many major differences in the business landscape here compared to European countries like the NL (or my native UK) reflect the sheer scale and financial firepower of LA, California and the US. The 2024 EU population is ~450m across 27 countries, vs. ~333m in the US alone. The valuation of Nvidia is about the same as that of the UK's entire FTSE 100. And the median salary in LA is ~$72k vs. ~$59k in London. This means in LA: 🚀 It can be expensive for EU companies to launch. 💸 Business valuations are significantly higher (7x European early stage) in the US, and in California vs. the US, so you can raise higher funding rounds. 💄  Consumer companies often charge more for products. 🎯 Antonia Tritthart helps LA businesses stay relevant by knowing their customers in target niches - this is made possible by the large consumer pool here. 🤗 Professionals in LA are pretty open to newcomers and mutual collaboration vs. Europe; I find it 10x easier to build community here than London.  😇 There are many funds, angel investors, communities and grants focused on underrepresented founders and investors (including women) in California. "What makes a good team?" 💡This was the thought-provoking question Marco van Aarle and Niels FC Willems posed to me on their Minds United podcast. Before I let you know my answer, let me tell you where I am coming from. As Tunga transitioned from startup to scale-up, we were joined by Reinier van Scherpenzeel as COO. We faced the challenge of managing a quickly growing team across six countries and two continents. Pre-Covid, our team was already accustomed to remote work. This led us to ponder: what kind of structures, rules, and procedures are essential for scaling sustainably? And how do we enforce them? 👮 👉The answer was simple: 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭! As I stated in the aforementioned podcast: I am a ‘lazy’ leader 😴. Not only am I not mentally capable of keeping tabs on everyone (even the thought of micromanaging drains my battery). But more importantly, we believe in leading an organization driven by intrinsic motivation. From my varied experiences—be it in the corporate world or on the football pitch—I've learned that the secret sauce of a high-performing team isn't just about assembling talent. It's about alignment to a mission. A shared, compelling mission is what truly energizes a team, making them more than the sum of their parts. 🔥So 𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 “𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧”. Always and everywhere, regardless of the context. Tunga is on a mission to unleash Africa’s tech talent. That’s what unites and motivates us. This year has been filled with amazing opportunities and this one ranks in the top 3 for me, personally. It was maybe a month ago or so that I got a call to talk about the upcoming Den Haag Inspireert event. I've been wanting to produce a video that puts spotlight on what The Hague represents, as a city, as a whole. What it means to me, as someone who wasn't born here but chose it as my home. I thought why not, let me give that idea and in return, I got the 3 most powerful words any creators loves to hear "we love it". From there on, it was a rush! Every day, every night. Walking up and down the streets, the beach, neighbourhoods, chasing the right moments. The idea wasn't to glorify the city or anything like that. In all honesty, it was to give an honest account of what this city stands for, in my view at least. You see, when I came to The Hague, I wasn't quite sure where my life was going. It was in this city that I found my purpose and direction, met the people that I cherish the most in the world, and have worked on things that make me proud to be who I am and do what I do. To some, The Hague may be the international city of peace and justice. To some, it may be the city of the royal family and the political centre of the country. Some others see it as a city of impact, others as the city by the sea. It's the city to do good and do business in. It may have nice hotels, beautiful venues, lots of paintings, and a rich history. The Hague can wear many hats and punch well above its weight on the world stage but all of that, all of its history and glory and standing, that all comes from its people. This video was produced from quite a bit of existing footage on HPM's server but the bulk of the footage you see was run-and-gunned. The people aren't actors. The shots aren't planned. The words don't come out of the branding manual. This is The Hague from our perspective, the people who told the story. Each of us added a little bit of our own flavour into it and in the end, I think, it told a beautiful story. This is The Hague, and The Hague is its people. We are The Hague! 💚 💛 #WijzijnDenHaag

Hence they speak out such things very openly But unfortunately because of their outspokenness they are avoided in films.
