*From Buzz Word to Full Scale Production: Tempestuous Journey of GenAI* Till early 2024, there was tremendous apprehension about #GenerativeAI being another bubble or a long-term opportunity. Businesses were facing challenges in the adoption of GenAI not because of lack of desire but confidence. _“People are key to confidence in AI”_ Carmine Di Sibio, EY Global Chairman and CEO Every new technology has a hype phase before its total value is realized. However, navigating in-between is difficult. This led some experts to suggest that GenAI’s potential may have been overhyped; however, the assertions were unwarranted. 2024 is the year of innovation, where GenAI breaks out from labs and Proofs of Concept (POCs) and now enters in production. GenAI has transitioned from the initial hype to reality. As per our latest EY Report "Is Generative AI beginning to deliver on its promise in India? - EY AIdea of India Update", enterprises are at different levels of adoption maturity. Digitally savvy industries, showing greater progress. Report estimates that, 30-40% of POCs by Global Capability Centers (GCCs) have been rolled out into production while among domestic enterprises this number is 15-20%. In the race of the AI innovation, the model capabilities have evolved and there has been an explosion of innovation along several dimensions. The recent announcement of the GPT 4.o shows that the world of GenAI models is dynamic and fast moving both in terms of capabilities and pricing. *Future Agent* There is also a significant momentum towards building agents that can work beyond point tasks and across multiple domains to accomplish a given goal. Most advanced models today are multimodal. This means they have been trained not just on text but simultaneously on images and increasingly on video. This broadens the scope of AI applications into innovative uses in content creation and smart virtual assistants. Similarly, GenAI poses to change the traditional search engines. AI models, by directly generating coherent and contextually appropriate responses. *Beyond Stereotype for Futureproofing* All sectors and geographies are taking part in an AI-powered technology race that will be a significant driver of growth and opportunity. Digital savvy sectors like Start-ups and GCC are way ahead of the domestic enterprises in adoption of AI at full scale. Large enterprise CEOs do need to look beyond the short-term efficiency and mid-term productivity gains that AI promises. One priority three years out is revenue growth. Does improving your GMAT score feel like an insurmountable challenge? Imagine going from 490 to 685! Meet Kartik, who did just that, achieving a stellar 685 on the GMAT Focus Edition, placing him in the 97th percentile. Through unwavering diligence and strategic approach, Kartik transformed his performance in Verbal from the 43rd percentile to an impressive 98th percentile and improved to the 96th percentile in Data Insight. 1. 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Starting with a 43rd percentile in Verbal, Kartik soared to the 98th percentile. Despite a math background, he struggled initially. 🌟 🎯 Guesstimate Mastery: What I Learned from a Meta PM 🌟 I recently participated in a mock interview session organized by HelloPM, led by Sugat Nayak, a seasoned Product Manager at Meta. Alongside him was Kshitij Anand, an MBA candidate at IIM-B, who shared valuable insights. Together, they walked through the process of solving guesstimate questions, an essential skill for PM interviews. 👉 How to Approach Guesstimate Questions: 1️⃣ Clarifying Questions First: Before jumping in, always ask clarifying questions to understand the scope, timeframes, or data points. This ensures you’re aligned with the interviewer’s expectations. 2️⃣ Start with a Structured Framework: Break the problem into key variables and start with a high-level estimate. A structured approach helps you organize your thoughts and gives clarity to the interviewer. 3️⃣ Make Assumptions & Communicate Them Clearly: Assumptions are inevitable. Make them, but ensure transparency. For example, if you assume certain traffic patterns or user behavior, be sure to explain your reasoning. 4️⃣ Estimate with Reasonable Numbers: Use real-world numbers that make sense. When estimating user numbers, market sizes, or other figures, ground them in logic. If something doesn’t feel right, pause and reassess your approach. 5️⃣ Test Your Answer: After arriving at an estimate, check it using a different method. For example, test your market size estimate with another metric to see if it aligns. This helps verify your calculations. 6️⃣ Consider Variations and Patterns: Think about how factors like time of day, seasonality, or events can shift your numbers. For instance, weekends, holidays, or product launches might affect sales. Acknowledge these nuances in your thought process. 7️⃣ What to Do If the Topic Is Unfamiliar: If the topic is new, apply your problem-solving skills. Use analogies from areas you're familiar with and walk through the logic step by step. Your approach matters more than prior knowledge. 👉 Things to Note While Preparing: 1️⃣ Practice Regularly: The more you practice, the more comfortable you'll get. Dedicate time to work through different guesstimate problems to improve your problem-solving skills. 2️⃣ Familiarize with Common Scenarios: Many guesstimates revolve around market sizes, user numbers, or revenue estimates. Know the typical ranges for these factors across industries. 3️⃣ Sharpen Your Mental Math: Quick mental math saves time during interviews. While exact calculations aren’t expected, being able to estimate quickly and accurately is essential. We all want GenAI, agentic human like intelligent automation across enterprise functions. But at what cost ? Is this hype only for productivity so that humans will need to do less of what we do today ? Or should GenAI accelerate 'save the world' kind of actions that humans have given up on, given the ROI of energy consumption stacks up. Should our AI aspirations draw selfishly from our next generation reserves ? Every LLM query consumes energy that could light up a bulb for 20 mins. GenAI will create 40% higher energy demand in the next decade than without it. Meta is running moldes on 100k+ H100 Nvidia chipsets, but should they be proud of it or concerned ? First industrial revolution deserved the fossil fuel as the end was not visible then and the climate threat was unknown. Now it is entirely different world, we must do double for environment before we consume energy for greed of growth and profit. Amazon, Meta, Google all buying and producing nuclear energy to justify the LLM model builds and trainings, the reasoning intelligence to get closer to illusive AGI. But nuclear is not green and then the capacity must be fed to main supply grid as opposed to data centre AI racks. Personal arc reactors is not a sustainable model. Should we not mandate double quantum of green energy feed first to the grid and then allow to consume additional power for AI aspirations ? AI be sustainable and responsible!

Gen AI is now at the stage of PoC where everyone is trying to find value proposition in terms of business benefits and simple dollar value. We have not yet reached a stage where dollar value benefits is simple to calculate and feasible. We are at the stage where ecosystem are coming into place and it will take some time to stabilize. It happens with every technology which can disrupt the market starting from steam engine, electricity, telecom, internet and today GenAI. if you look electricity it does not make any business sense building country wide infrastructure and grid for electricity 100 year back but today we can't survive a minute without electricity. GenAI need investment like electricity before it reaches to mass and day to day life.
