Delighted to host Laurent Jaffart, ESA Director of Connectivity and Secure Communications and Dr. Paul Bate, CEO of the UK Space Agency and their teams to see Space INSPIRE, Thales Alenia Space’s newest telecommunication satellite taking shape in our clean room in Thales Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Assembly, Integration and Test activities for the propulsion system is complete in readiness for shipment to our Cannes facility where it will be integrated into the satellite. About Space INSPIRE Our customers increasingly need the agility to develop advanced services and seize new business opportunities. Space INSPIRE is a digital, ultra-flexible solution that is fully reprogrammable in orbit, allowing operators to match capacity to demand anytime and anywhere, whatever the frequency band. With its software-defined technology, Space INSPIRE is a game-changer for the fast-moving communications market. The Assembly, Integration and Test activities related to the Prototype Flight Model began this summer and the final Critical Design Reviews are expected by the end of the year. The development of the product line is supported by CNES and by ESA through the ARTES Novacom II Partnership Project in which, among 10 ESA Participating States, the UK is a major contributor to the ARTES Competitiveness & Growth programme. Thanks to all the teams involved, to CNES, ESA and UKSA for their support and to our customers for putting their trust in our company. Today, the European Commission (EC), the European Space Agency - ESA and #SpaceRise consortium of telecommunications operators have signed a contract to officially start working on IRIS2, a future secured and interconnected satellite constellation. This milestone is crucial for Europe’s safety and security. IRIS2 new system will offer unique capabilities in terms of global capacity, low latency Cyber resilience, to name a few. The constellation will embed the latest telecommunications technologies such as 5G, optical inter-satellite links, and many more. As for Thales Alenia Space, we are proud to contribute to this project. As project core team member, we are now looking forward to working hand-in-hand with EC, ESA, SpaceRise and the space value chain to address this program properly from an industrial standpoint. The IRIS² Satellite Constellation is the European Union’s third flagship program, addressing long-term challenges of EU’s security, safety and resilience by offering enhanced connectivity services to governmental users. After Copernicus, the most ambitious program in the world dedicated to environmental monitoring, and Galileo, the top satellite navigation system to date, Europe is on its way to prepare its third so-called flagship.
IRIS2: a third pillar for Europe’s space sovereignty Today, the European Commission (EC), the European Space Agency - ESA and #SpaceRise consortium of telecommunications operators have signed a contract to officially start working on IRIS2, a future secured and interconnected satellite constellation. This milestone is crucial for Europe’s safety and security. I personally want to congratulate all the actors who made it happen. The IRIS² Satellite Constellation is the European Union’s third flagship program, addressing long-term challenges of EU’s security, safety and resilience by offering enhanced connectivity services to governmental users. To address a program of that scale, we believe that the most adequate solution to fulfill customers’ expectations would be to build a multi-layer constellation. Indeed, a combination of orbits is actually the best approach to serve both governmental and commercial use cases. Our company is part of the few industrial players that have proven capabilities Middle and Low Earth orbits. LEO and MEO constellations enable low latency, providing performing business and governmental connectivity services. The satellites in the future constellation will be connected thanks high-speed optical intersatellite links. Of course, the more the system is software-defined, the more it needs to be secured from ground to space segments so as to resist to any kind of cyber-attacks. Our company’s longstanding legacy in satellite communication constellations, paired with its proven capabilities in LEO and MEO systems and the introduction of new technological developments will be really key to meet the program’s goals and serve customers’ in a reliable way. After Copernicus, the most ambitious program in the world dedicated to environmental monitoring, and Galileo, the top satellite navigation system to date, Europe is on its way to prepare its third so-called flagship. #IRIS2 #Telecommunications #sovereignty Thales Leonardo SES Satellites Eutelsat Group Hispasat Josef Aschbacher Timo Pesonen #Constellation Alcino De Sousa Riadh Cammoun Bernard Jacqué Susana Villanueva

Exciting news from the #MarsSampleReturn mission! In the #Turin manufacturing facility of Thales Alenia Space, the #OrbitInsertionModule (OIM) Proto-Flight Model (PFM) structure has been completed and fully assembled. The structure of the first flight module of the #EarthReturnOrbiter (ERO) Spacecraft is now ready to undergo a Qualification Static Test, which is a crucial step in verifying that the overall structure assembly meets its mechanical load requirements. The primary objective of the OIM in flight is to provide ERO with the necessary propulsion thrust for proper insertion into #Mars orbit, before being separated to save mass for ERO's journey back to Earth with the valuable Mars samples on board. Thales Alenia Space is a key partner in the industrial consortium led by Airbus Defence and Space for the European Space Agency - ESA's Earth Return Orbiter (ERO) Spacecraft. We are responsible for providing the Orbit Insertion Module (OIM), the Communications & Data Relay sub-system, and for performing the overall spacecraft Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) until the Launch Campaign. The Earth Return Orbiter (ERO) is ESA’s major contribution to the Mars Sample Return campaign, a complex choreography of missions designed to bring Martian rocks, soil, and atmospheric samples back to Earth. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to advance towards this groundbreaking mission! Giampiero Di Paolo / Walter Cugno / Franco Fenoglio / Michael Coarezza / Nicola Peverati / Giulia Valli
