Celebrating innovation at graduation as our first Airbus Space Accelerator concludes following an epic 14-week journey travelling beyond the stars! 🪐 In partnership with Airbus Defence and Space, Plexal has supported nine groundbreaking companies through an initiative designed to collaboratively propel innovative technologies to new heights 🚀 A huge congratulations to our cohort including ANGOKA, Applied Atomics, Aquark Technologies, BioOrbit, Calnex Solutions, D-RisQ Ltd, LIA Aerospace, Magdrive and Yondar Space for successfully completing the programme! 👏 💬 Commenting on the project, Plexal CEO Andrew Roughan said: "We've found 600 organisations, down selected to 150. We're proud to have launched the Space Accelerator programme with Airbus, which highlights nine of those companies to meet the needs of Airbus and the end user." 💬 Vanessa Viney, UK & US Innovations Manager at Airbus Defence and Space, added: "SMEs and startups are absolutely vital for someone like Airbus. Commonly known as ESA BICs, the ESA Business Incubation Centres are the largest network of incubators supporting #space-related start-ups in #Europe. The main objective of the network, which will celebrate its first 20 years in 2024, is to support entrepreneurs with a space-based #business idea and help them developing their product while getting their company off the ground. In the process, the ESA BICs create and grow clusters of space-related start-ups across Europe. Through each #incubation centre, the network provides excellent opportunities to connect young innovative companies with new business partners across Europe. ⚡️Dealroom.co released the defence tech and dual-use startup landscape of the newly full-NATO Nordics. ▶︎Albeit the Nordic Defence and dual-use ecosystem is now worth a combined $3.7B, and has grown 14x in the last 8 years. ▶︎Defence is a rising priority in the Nordics. More than 130 defence and dual-use startups are poised to play their part. ▶︎But core defence tech investment lags the European average, and Nordics defence and dual-use investment lags that of even Southern Europe, despite a much more mature tech ecosystem overall. ▶︎Defense startups representatives of the region: MyDefence, Sky-Watch A/S, Unbound Autonomy, etc. ▶︎ The Nordics defence and dual-use investor landscape: Prima Materia, Lifeline Ventures, Rymdkapital, Voima Ventures + Double Tap Investments Ltd ▶︎ Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Aalborg, Trondheim and Oslo host most defence tech, space and quantum startups. 🇫🇮Finland shows a very strong centralization in Helsinki, while Denmark, Sweden and Norway have multiple hubs. 🇩🇰In Denmark, Aalborg and Copenhagen emerge as key hubs. Aalborg hosts notable activity thanks to the Aalborg University (AAU), and the presence of mature defence industry players and army outposts. Since 2004 the ESA BICs in Germany supported 500 Startups, some 77 of them have been incubated in ESA BIC Baden-Württemberg, which started in 2018. First incubated Startup was LuxFlux.

The ARGOTEC SpacePark aims to be one of the most advanced #space factories in Europe, with the capability to build more than 50 satellites per year and encompassing its own Mission Control Center to operate missions. The SpacePark is situated in the iconic building designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer in San Mauro Torinese, just outside Turin. With over 11,000 sqm of operational spaces, about 17,000 sqm of open green areas, and 1,200 sqm dedicated to its Industrial Accelerator, the SpacePark will undoubtedly be one of the places where the #future of space comes to life.
