Inner child work as part of the Executive Coaching process?! In terms of the work I do with my Founder & CEO clients — it’s an ESSENTIAL piece of the puzzle. Yesterday my dear friend, the brilliant Vienna Pharaon, LMFT and I led a discussion inspired by my coaching practice and her bestselling book, “The Origins of You.” The topic? “Burnout & the Worthiness Wound” We can all agree that burnout is at epidemic levels and ESPECIALLY prevalent in the startup founder community. We know that long hours and high stress are a PART of the puzzle but if those were the *only* causal factors — then even MORE folks would be burnt out… So what’s the missing piece that causes some of us to burnout while others roll with the punches? 🧒🏽👧🏼Conditioning we picked up in childhood. 3️⃣ things I would do differently if I shifted to Switzerland now 2️⃣0️⃣ years ago, I arrived in Switzerland for just two years, with no intention of staying 🤔 I arrived without a work permit, a job, a network, or a social support system. I applied for over 100 jobs (I have a spreadsheet to prove it). I even applied for an internship and a receptionist at a Pilates studio. I got interviews but no job ☹️. I had the wrong plan. 😯 Theoretically, an employer would apply for a work permit if I found a job. In reality, most employers didn’t want to go through the hassle of getting me a work permit unless I had a particular skill. While I think I was special, I am just not that special 😉! I was homesick - miles from family and friends. I had to quit just applying, applying and applying. Instead, I got an EU passport, which gave me the right to work. Within 3 weeks, I had a job 😃😁. 3️⃣Things this taught me 1️⃣When a plan is not working, it’s time to quit and try a new plan 2️⃣Look at the root cause and try to change the conditions 3️⃣Getting through these difficult times shows me I can get through nearly anything What has moving countries taught you? When did you need to quit and find a new plan? #NewPlan #Career

𝑺𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆 ... Not long ago, Johanna & me, kicked off our series about CoActiveCoaching. Today, I invite you to dive deeper - into a situation that is quite common in my coaching practice: Whenever a coachee approaches me, it is often more with a gut feeling than with a well formulated question: Sth does not feel right – in the job or personal life - sth needs to change. Alongside this inner urge for transformation come lots of questions… tackling first and foremost the what & then, with even greater intensity, the how: What exactly needs to be different? How do I get there and where do I start? In CoActive coaching the BEING (Co) is as important as the DOING (Active). Learning from theory & experience it is not helpful to jump straight into next steps and action plans (= the DOING). Thus, in situations like these, focussing on the BEING is the preferred route & how do I do that? I ask powerful questions, such as: “How do you want to feel in a year from now? Which color will your life be? If your life is a landscape you are walking through – which landscape is it, 6 months from now?“ Then, I explore even further: “What do you see around you, what is the smell, the temperature? Are you alone and if not, who is with you?” For this visionary work we CoActive coaches might ask our coachees to close their eyes. Although this might feel uncomfortable - it facilitates us in connecting to our #leaderwithin - to the wisdom of our inner voice, our true self. We could also start by simply asking: “What matters to you most?” Or we kick it off using tools out of the box of personal values & one’s own #lifepurpose: “What is the difference you want to make in the world? What is the impact you have on people in your life? What is your #northstar - to align your being & your doing with?” These questions fill our cup - allowing us to acknowledge & to celebrate our unique strengths and capabilities. It is from this place of full self-acceptance & self-authority that we return to the present moment, the HERE & NOW: If this is what you wish for - your northstar, your lifepurpose - which decisions, actions, considerations, experiments, … are yours to take - so that all of it becomes reality? Keeping in mind that this 2nd part is of the essence: CoActive Coaching does not stop at “you, saying the word” - formulating & expressing your visions, north stars and life purpose statements. It also covers the part where “you take action” - bringing them to life, using them to become active. So, what is there NOW (feelings, thoughts, inspiration, …) having read this post? Embracing Long-lasting Behavioural Changes While Embedding Psychological Safety at #OSMS24 As the last day of this 3-day conference begins, the focus is on groundbreaking approaches that elevate the dynamics within our workplaces. One of the themes Franziska S. & I spoke about was the integration of neuroscience-based long-lasting behavioural change techniques, mental health first aider tools and the necessity of establishing psychological safety within our workplaces. #Neuroscience provides profound insights into how our brains work, influencing our behaviours and interactions. By leveraging these insights, businesses can implement strategies that promote sustainable positive behavioural changes to enhance focus, resilience, adaptability and cohesion. These benefits can be gained only when #Management works with #AgileCoaches / #ScrumMasters as one united front, away from a THREAT state towards a REWARD state. #PsychologicalSafety is the cornerstone of high-performing teams, role-modeling leaders and healthy businesses. When Agile Coaches / Scrum Masters feel safe to express their thoughts, take risks and make mistakes while still being supported by management, without fear of retribution, innovation and collaboration flourishes, spilling over to their teams and directly reflects on their company culture & ROI.
