(1/3) The following abstract highlights the highly relevant and intriguing content of Tatiana Bachkirova's keynote for our upcoming Coaching Conference, "AI: Game Changer or Hype," in Zürich (details below). Tatiana Bachkirova is a Professor of Coaching Psychology at the International Centre for Coaching and Mentoring Studies, Oxford Brookes University, UK. 𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭: My starting point in this talk is to argue that the best thing about AI movement in coaching is that it forces us to become much clearer what our human-based service is about and what is special about it particularly in the organisational context. If we can at last (!), conceptualise the nature of our practice, we should then be able to see if any version of ‘stand-alone AI coaching’ is a reasonable substitution for human coaching or if it should be named differently in order not to mislead our potential clients. Only after that will we be in a position to disengage from the ridiculous competition with AI – an undertaking that is presented under the umbrella of ‘democratizing coaching’. Only after that can we calmly discuss what functions of coaching, as we know it, can be enhanced with the limited use of AI. When Nietzsche Wept and The Power of a Nuitritious Friend in our Lives Yalom’s 1992 best selling book is a somewhat fictional used account of the “ talk therapy” between Josef Breuer, one of the early pioneers of psychoanalysis and the great philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. Breuer sets out to treat Nietzsche for crippling headaches and insomnia The insightful and intimately honest conversations the two share about their respective fears and inner darkness leads to a powerful friendship and each reaching much greater self awareness and healing. The book also illustrates the powerful difference that even one or two nuitrtious people in our lives can make. There is a growing body of scientific evidence by such leaders as Siegel ( The Developing Mind, 1999) and many others that positive interpersonal relationships promote neurological growth and change throughout our lives. One positive person can also have a significant impact on our ability to ground ourselves, regulate our emotions and become more optimistic in our outlook on life. Therapy, coaching, philosophy and spirituality are all great ways to develop a full and meaningful life. One of the simplistic and most positive things we can do for ourselves however is to develop a deep, abiding relationship with at least one other person with whom we share an unconditional positive regard with.
