🌸 Hilton accelerates multi brand, multi destination expansion in Canada. With 180 hotels open and nearly 90 hotels in the pipeline, Hilton is on track to expand its portfolio of hotels by 50% over the next 5 years.    Leading global hospitality company, Hilton (NYSE: HLT), continues to accelerate its development efforts in Canada. Just two more board members to meet! Today, we're meeting Patrick Farrell, Area Director of Revenue Management & E-Commerce at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts. Winging it or planning it? Planning beforehand but with plenty of spare time to wing it. Love being able to have the flexibility of knowing the key things I want to do, or restaurants to dine at, while still being able to call an audible and completely change directions. That said, I usually have a couple different ideas of things to do, so even my winging it is likely semi-planned… Traveling alone or with others? Traveling is the best with my wife, and we’ve been starting to take our two kids with us places now too – an experience for sure! Mountains or beach? Both…Nothing beats a beach with solid food and drink service though. Suitcase or backpack? Suitcase. Hidden gems or tourist spots? Speed past the tourist spots and spend the bulk of my time exploring local spots. Love a foreign grocery store. Hotel or Airbnb? Hotel every time. Relax or adventure? I like to blend a little bit of both, but exploring and adventure is primarily what I’m looking for, with a relaxing day or two in the middle. Pack light or over pack? I’ve learned to pack light over the past few years and will never go back. Favorite Chicago restaurant? Alinea – the Gallery is still such an amazing experience. Favorite thing to do in Chicago? Spending time in all the various neighborhoods, exploring new places to drink and dine. I love that Chicago has an endless amount of cuisines to offer - new places always popping up, and timeless classics. Favorite part of working in hospitality? The people of course! Getting to travel and help others have memorable experiences.

We certified the Hotel Grand Pacific in Victoria, BC, as dog-friendly. They scored a failing F rank, making them one of the lowest-ranking hotels on Victoria Island in terms of their dog friendliness. They have a weight limit of 40 pounds, which excludes Labradors and any medium or large dog breeds and calls into question their commitment to dog friendliness. Canine inclusivity is nonexistent; only a handful of their rooms are dog friendly, and dogs are not allowed in the public areas, bar, or restaurant. They charge you a canine tax of $50 CAD per stay, but they will give you a food and water bowl, as well as a dog bed in return for this fee, making it reasonable compared to other hotels. But given the total lack of services, amenities, and inclusivity, its hard to describe this hotel as friendly to dogs. 🚥 Hoteliers, here's a hospitality lesson from the Canadian Grand Prix: to deliver a truly elite experience, you need to meet needs beyond just your hotel (or event, in this case). Consider... ...the F1 circuit was built on an island east of Montreal. ...without transportation, it's 3hrs round trip to walk to the island. ...350,000 people attend over the weekend. ...those buildings in the photo background are where fans can stay. Now, the biggest consideration for your guests is not your amazing event or property, but local infrastructure! Most fans invested between 🚨 3 and 6 🚨 hours in getting to and from the island, which was brutal. (Behind the scenes: this clear underinvestment in infrastructure likely stems from the original negotiations between local government and the FIA.) Let's apply this to hotels & their guests. 1️⃣ Before they arrive, flight/train/car infrastructure is the biggest travel factor. 2️⃣ When they arrive, room availability massively influences their day. 3️⃣ During their stay, local transportation limits/expands their possible activity. 4️⃣ At the end of their stay, their travel stress affects the last impression. Now what if we tailored services to those needs? 🚌 Private/public shuttle rate plans or add-ons. ⏱ Early check-in or pre check-in spaces. 🎁 Welcome packs to hydrate/refresh as add-ons or VIP gifts. 🚲 Access to bike/scooter stations or shared local electric shuttle. 📱 Virtual concierge services, especially over text.
