We certified the Hotel Grand Pacific in Victoria, BC, as dog-friendly. They scored a failing F rank, making them one of the lowest-ranking hotels on Victoria Island in terms of their dog friendliness. They have a weight limit of 40 pounds, which excludes Labradors and any medium or large dog breeds and calls into question their commitment to dog friendliness. Canine inclusivity is nonexistent; only a handful of their rooms are dog friendly, and dogs are not allowed in the public areas, bar, or restaurant. They charge you a canine tax of $50 CAD per stay, but they will give you a food and water bowl, as well as a dog bed in return for this fee, making it reasonable compared to other hotels. But given the total lack of services, amenities, and inclusivity, its hard to describe this hotel as friendly to dogs. Something for Reid James and Kirk MacMillan to consider. https://lnkd.in/dTnce5bd

We certified the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria as dog-friendly; it scored a respectable B rank, making it a good choice for dog owners visiting Sorrento, Italy. This hotel shares many of the same characteristics as A-ranking hotels; for example, it provides beds and bowls, can organize dog walking, has a garden for you to use, and, best of all, dogs stay for free at this hotel. They do not have an A rank because they lack canine inclusivity, which is non-existent at the hotel. Dogs are not allowed in the bar, restaurant, or communal areas, meaning you cannot enjoy this hotel with your dog. They also have a vague weight limit and allow "small to medium" sized dogs, something we see at hotels that selectively use weight limits to decide which dogs can stay. It is a shame, Guido Fiorentino and Luca Fiorentino; by every other measure, you should be an A-ranking hotel, but your level of inclusivity shames you and calls into question your commitment to being dog friendly. https://lnkd.in/dBm69egN

We certified the Classik Hotel Alexander Plaza as dog-friendly; they scored our failing F rank, making them a hotel dog owners should avoid. Canine inclusivity is non existent, as dogs are not allowed in the bar, restaurant, terrace, or any public areas. Additionally, dogs cannot be left alone in the room, which could complicate your plans if you need to go somewhere dogs aren't allowed. Only a few of their rooms are dog friendly, so availability might be an issue, but they have no weight limits so all dog breeds are welcome. Urgent need for improvement here Aylin Lamsfuss, we think that the Classik Hotel Collection can do a lot better than this. https://lnkd.in/dQmEehxB

We certified the InterContinental Porto - Palácio das Cardosas as dog-friendly; it scored a mediocre C rank, making it a barely acceptable choice for dog owners visiting Porto. They have an absurd weight limit of 33 pounds, which excludes our labrador, and dogs are not allowed in their bar or restaurant, underlining the distinct lack of canine inclusivity at this IHG hotel. This makes this hotel an outlier and lower ranking than any other of the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts we certified, and their $ 30-a-night canine tax is steep compared to other hotels, especially given the restrictions. There is room for improvement here Duarte Pinho. https://lnkd.in/dfVihZTq

We certified the Amerikalinjen Hotel in Oslo, Norway, as dog-friendly. Despite being considered one of the best hotels in the city, they scored a disappointing D rank. This is mainly due to the lack of basic amenities like beds or food and water bowls or any dog-friendly services or facilities. But you can go into their bar and restaurant with your dog, and they do not have any weight limits; we like their canine inclusivity. They have a reasonable canine tax of just 500 NOK / 41 EUR / $50 UDF per stay compared to other hotels, but the lack of basic amenities and services makes it a canine tax. Perhaps something to think about Ørjan Lundmark? https://lnkd.in/dnBEN6pQ

Do you love to bring Fido on vacation, or do you prefer a non-pet room? The hospitality industry has seen a significant shift. Since COVID lockdowns, the demand for dog-friendly hotel rooms has soared as more dog owners look for places that welcome their furry family members. Recognizing this growing trend, many hotels are jumping on board, with dog-friendly hotels leading the way. By adopting dog-friendly policies and getting the proper certifications, hotels attract a loyal and lucrative customer base. This has led to more bookings, happier guests, and a competitive edge in the pet-friendly market. Pet ownership, especially dogs, has surged in recent years. Dog owners now prioritize hotels that openly welcome their pets. This trend presents an excellent opportunity for hotels to attract this enthusiastic group by offering dog-friendly services, facilities, and amenities tailored to their four-legged friends. But what if you’re allergic to pets or prefer a pet-free room? We’ve got you covered. We strive to keep our top floors pet-free, as most pet owners prefer ground floors near exits for convenience. Just let us know if you’d like a room that pets haven’t used, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Whether you're a dog lover or not, we're here to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable! 👍 #hotels #hotelrewards #pethotels

"We have a presenter/attendee to the conference with a service dog - they'll adapt; we don't have to change anything." .....yes, yes, you do, as a reasonable accommodation. Reframe: "We have a presenter/attendee at the conference with a service dog; please ensure they have what they need to make their experience successful and inclusive." Providing space for a Service Dog Handler: It is often overlooked that a Service Dog Handler will need the same circulation space (aisles, tables, etc.) required of wheelchair users (no less than 36 inches, but 72 inches is recommended). For attendees with service dogs, ensure that any hotel or conference map (or conference welcome handouts) includes locations of easily accessed grassy areas for service dog relief. Ensure sufficient space at a table or in audience seating for the service dog to rest. Under a table if table seating for meals, or beside the handler. Plan for two seating spaces for a service dog and handler. Even at a conference table, if food is served, the service dog will generally go under the table, but ensure there is sufficient room under tables without cords, excess table legs, etc. The seat next to the handler allows room for the service dog to enter and exit comfortably and is not kicked by the person beside them. In other words, make sure there is plenty of room. Include Service Dog Fact Sheets in orientation materials. Ensure event staff and volunteers know proper service dog etiquette and how to interact with an SD team appropriately. Presenters with Service Dogs: We have this written in our presentation contracts! Ensure the riser or stage has an accessible on/off ramp and sufficient room for the service dog to move and rest without getting close to an edge or falling off. Make sure there is an accessible restroom near the location of the presentation. Service dog handlers use accessible stalls often. Identify a relief area for the service dog close to the location of the presentation. When the handler arrives (if speaker or presenter) have a staff member or volunteer escort the handler to the relief area if needed, so they know how to find it. I do not know how often I have been verbally instructed where the relief area was, only to find that the instructions were vague, incorrect, or we were left outside a locked door. Breaks should allow sufficient time for the handler to use the restroom AND take their dog out for relief. Provide bottled water and ask the handler if they want a bowl for their service dog. Usually, a handler brings their own, but it is nice if they do not have one. #DisabilityInclusion #ServiceDog #Conference #Attendee #Presenter #KeyNote #EqualAccess
