Looking after your mental well-being during Christmas is essential, as the season can bring joy but also stress, loneliness, or overwhelm. High expectations, financial pressures, and social obligations can strain your emotional health, while feelings of loss or isolation may intensify. Prioritising self-care helps manage these challenges, allowing you to set boundaries, reduce stress, and focus on what truly matters. Activities like mindfulness, connecting with loved ones, or taking breaks can boost your resilience. By caring for your mental health, you can create a balanced, fulfilling holiday experience that nurtures joy and peace, even amidst the season's demands. If feelings of sadness, anxiety, or stress become overwhelming, don’t hesitate to reach out to Lifeline WA 13 11 14 Mental Health Commission of Western Australia Act Belong Commit #Wearestrongertogether

Each conversation started, every event held, and all the support provided has contributed to building a stronger, healthier community for WA men. As we head into 2025, we’re excited to build on the successes of this year. With new projects, innovative collaborations, and a renewed mission, we’re committed to helping men become the best versions of themselves. Mens Talk AU were featured in The West Australian today with other WA men's groups who are working towards building Positive Masculinity in the community. These groups across our communities are standing up to take on one of the most challenging issues of our time: Family and Domestic Violence (FDV). Amid a tide of negativity toward masculinity, these groups are proving that men can lead with accountability, empathy, and strength to drive positive change. The work being done isn’t easy, but it’s vital. Men are engaging in honest conversations, challenging harmful behaviours, and redefining what healthy masculinity looks like. They’re creating safe spaces for self-reflection, offering support to one another, and working collaboratively to break cycles of violence. This is about more than just addressing the symptoms of FDV; it’s about prevention and creating cultural change. It’s about showing that men have the power to be allies in creating safer homes and communities for everyone. Let’s celebrate these efforts and recognise the courage it takes to confront such a complex issue head-on. By supporting men who are committed to making a difference, we can help shift the narrative and build a future where respect, equality, and accountability are the norm. Together, we are stronger. Together, we can create lasting change. Mental Health Commission of Western Australia, Australian Men's Health Forum #MensHealth #FDVPrevention #PositiveMasculinity #CommunityLeadership

Mens Talk AU was pleased to be a part of Bunnings Melville Community Christmas Celebration last night. The local community were able to participate in a variety of Christmas Crafts, listen to Christmas songs performed by local caroleers and interact with many local groups who do wonderful work in the community including, Rotary, Neighbourhood Watch, Lions and various clubs and groups. We had many conversations around men's mental health and wellbeing especially in the lead up to the Christmas period. Now more than ever there is need for more support for men who are disconnected and lonely due to unfortunate circumstances. The community feedback was overwhelmingly supportive of Mens Talk AU work and were thankful for the support we provide. Thank you Donna Yates and Rachel Sawford for your ongoing support of Mens Talk AU collaboration with Bunnings stores throughout WA. We look forward to strengthening this relationship with new and exciting initiatives in 2025. #Bootsontheground

Loneliness can be particularly challenging for men during Christmas, a time often associated with family, connection, and celebration. Social expectations can amplify feelings of isolation for those who are estranged from loved ones, have lost close relationships, or lack strong support networks. Men may hesitate to express their emotions or seek help due to societal norms around masculinity, leaving them to struggle in silence. For some, this isolation can lead to increased stress, depression, or suicide ideation. Mens Talk AU are hosting for the very first time a Christmas Eve BBQ on Tuesday 24 December 5.30pm, for Men’s Mental Health and Wellbeing at Scarborough Surf Lifesaving Club, aimed at bringing together up to 100 men in our community, especially those accessing support services and those who may feel alone or vulnerable at this time of year. Our event offers a warm and welcoming environment where attendees can enjoy a delicious BBQ meal, connect with others, and receive special services, including complimentary haircuts to help them feel refreshed and a Christmas gift as a reminder that they are valued and supported. We believe that, by joining forces, we can provide meaningful support to men facing difficult challenges during the holiday season and encourage hope, connection, and resilience. If you are aware of any men that maybe in this position this Christmas, please email me [email protected] to register for this event. Together, we can bring the gift of community and support to men who need it most. A morning filled with fun, Dads reading with their kids and everything Bananas, including Banana lollies. This event is important as Dads play an important role in providing positive role modelling and what better way then snuggling down with a book together. Bananas Big Day Out is a perfect Christmas Present and if you would like to order one please go to https://lnkd.in/gCAnhdCP As Paul says “CHILDREN’S BOOKS - ENJOYED BY ADULTS” In the evening Mens Talk AU was invited to City of Stirling (Western Australia) annual Christmas Dinner. A great night of celebration highlighting the strength of City of Stirling (Western Australia) community. Its hard to believe that back in January 2021 we had a meeting with Mark Irwin and Michael Quirk to discuss starting a Mens Mental Health Charity in Scarborough. Throughout they have been steadfast in supporting our vision of improved men's mental health and wellbeing and leading the way in WA local government with the prevention of men's suicide in the community. Mens Talk AU looks forward to many more years of powerful collaboration working together with the City of Stirling (Western Australia) on exciting projects and innovations that not only change lives but save them!!! Record-Breaking Success: Swim For Life 24 Mens Talk AU Charity Swimathon The Swim For Life 24 event has made waves, setting a new standard for community engagement and fundraising in support of men’s mental health. This year’s record-breaking success highlighted the event's power to inspire, connect, and make a tangible difference in countless lives. Here are some key highlights: Comradery, Community, and Connection: The event brought together swimmers, supporters, and volunteers who exemplified teamwork and unity. These bonds were as vital as the funds raised, fostering a sense of shared purpose and determination. Team Excellence: One standout team single-handedly raised an impressive $25,000, underscoring the power of dedicated efforts within a collective cause. Record Fundraising Total: The event smashed previous records, raising $226,609, cementing its place as one of Western Australia’s most successful community swimathons. Corporate and Political Support: Increased sponsorship and support from City of Stirling (Western Australia), from businesses and a generous $10,000 contribution from Stuart Aubrey MLA, member for Scarborough, were instrumental in the event’s financial success. Event Highlights Relaunch of a Community Icon: The relaunch of the Southern Hemisphere’s largest outdoor swimming pool at Terry Tyzak Aquatic Centre, was celebrated with a FREE Family Day and fun activities, attracting even broader community involvement. Masters Swimming WA Collaboration: This partnership played a critical role in spreading awareness about men’s mental health, extending the event’s impact across the state. A Powerful Reminder of Purpose Amidst the achievements, the event’s true significance was highlighted when a young man visited the Mens Talk AU stall to share his struggles with mental health and suicidal thoughts. The immediate intervention by the team, connecting him with the Blue Mind Place in Scarborough, demonstrated the life-saving potential of such events. This moment was a testament to the importance of early intervention and accessible support services. Looking Ahead to 2025 With the momentum of this year’s extraordinary success, the anticipation for next year’s Swim For Life event is already building. Together, we will continue to make waves for men's mental health, creating a stronger, more connected community. Thank you, WA, for your support and dedication. We are indeed stronger together!
