  • 🌞 Experience the Spirit of Birak at Subi East’s Six Seasons Bidi Trail 🌿 Birak is the Noongar season of youth—the first summer—marked by hot, dry weather and the vibrant colour red, symbolising heat, sun, and fire. It’s a time for renewal, when controlled burns rejuvenate the land, bringing new growth and plenty of food. The season’s golden banksia flowers and blooming moodjar (WA Christmas tree) light up the landscape, while sea breezes cool the afternoons. At the heart of Subi East’s Six Seasons Bidi Trail, Noongar artist Rubeun Yorkshire has created a stunning sculpture that celebrates Birak. Inspired by the elements—earth, wind, water, and fire—his artwork reflects the deep connection between land and season. The design, shaped like contour maps, captures the flow of wind and faces Galup (Lake Monger), a site of great cultural significance. Made from corten rusted steel, the piece represents the cool burns that heal and regenerate the land. Its elevated, rippling forms symbolise water as the source of life, while the design draws from traditional Noongar linework that carries stories of country and culture. Come and explore this incredible artwork at Court Place in Subiaco to connect with the stories of Birak, the land, and the beauty of the Noongar six seasons. #Birak #SubiEast #SixSeasonsBidiTrail #RubeunYorkshire #ArtAndCulture #SeasonOfYouth #DevelopmentWA Apparatus Big Spoon Art Services City of Subiaco Credit: Frances Andrijich Photographer Pty Ltd

  • The Town of Port Hedland led the official opening of the Spoilbank Marina took place last week, giving the community the first chance to formally see the marina and brand new public open space. The new marina includes a four-lane recreational boat ramp, boat pens, fish cleaning facilities, fishing jetty and a recreation and event space with public amenities. An art walk, designed by Kariyarra artists, highlights Aboriginal culture and features marine-themed sculptures, terrazzo designs set into the ground and shaded areas decorated with patterns celebrating local plants and animals. It was great to be part of the early community engagement and design phases of this significant project prior to it being handed over to the Pilbara Ports Authority to undertake the delivery phase. Congratulations to all who have been a part of this transformational project, that has been a long time in the making. This is a great example of inter-government agencies, the private sector and Traditional Owners collaborating to deliver this fantastic facility for the whole Port Hedland community to enjoy.
