  • Yesterday the Infrastructure WA Board and team had the opportunity to tour the gateway to Western Australia, with 97% of all entries and exits in the state occurring through Perth Airport. It was exciting to get a glimpse of the multi-billion dollar infrastructure program that will be rolled out over the next decade. The tour provided valuable insights into the upcoming work that will expand capacity, consolidate operations and provide world class amenity ensuring it meets the future demands of WA, including the growth and diversification of its economy. Our appreciation to the team at Perth Airport for taking the time to host us and share their vision for the Airport Central precinct.

  • Reflecting on #ABIC2024 Over the past week our CEO Philip Helberg had the opportunity to take part in the 8th Australian British Infrastructure Catalyst. Raising awareness of WA's infrastructure opportunities and challenges Phil emphasised the state's potential and ongoing strong investment in infrastructure. Speakers throughout the Catalyst unpacked the latest trends across the UK and Australia in infrastructure and transport with valuable insights being shared on innovative methods to decarbonise infrastructure and tackling housing shortages with leading ideas on productivity in infrastructure and Modern Methods of Construction. Thank you to the Australian British Chamber of Commerce for hosting such a fantastic event.

  • Last week IWA were pleased to participate in an event hosted by CEDA - Committee for Economic Development of Australia, where our Chair Nicole Lockwood shared valuable insights on 'Securing Western Australia's Water Future'. As highlighted in our 2022 State Infrastructure Strategy, water is one of society's most vital commodities and its sustainable management is crucial. During the panel discussion, Nicole emphasised several key points: 1. Leveraging science-based data: Integrating innovations in data analysis will build the evidence base for investment in water infrastructure.  2. Collaboration across sectors: Public-private collaboration, such as through Waterwise action plans, is essential for better projects and on the ground change.   3. Energy transition and water security: As energy becomes integral to water production and vice versa, alignment of conversations about energy transition and water security are key. Thank you to CEDA for fostering this conversation and providing a platform to champion water resilience in our state.

  • Reconciliation is an ongoing journey and this year's National Reconciliation Week of 'Now More Than Ever' is a powerful reminder to continue the momentum. This #NRW2024 the IWA team have been showing up; truth-listening; and walking in solidarity on Noongar boodja to demonstrate our continued commitment to reconciliation and recognise the resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Here at IWA, we listen to and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's perspectives in the way we work. As we provide advice on infrastructure, we acknowledge the impact infrastructure can play in supporting empowerment, and in improving life outcomes of communities throughout WA.

  • Thank you to Aurecon, particularly Pratik Shrestha, for the tour of Murdoch University's Boola Katitjin building. Its Noongar name, meaning ‘many facets and many levels of learning,’ perfectly encapsulates the building's versatility and depth. Boola Katitjin’s design and implementation is grounded in respect for connection to Country, evident through the biophilic design of spaces that not only encourage a more collaborative, immersive learning setting but pays homage to the surrounding environment. Sustainability took center stage in the design of Western Australia's largest mass-engineered timber building, earning it a prestigious 6-Star Green Star certification and the esteemed George Temple Poole Award at the WA Architecture Awards.
