There’s nothing scarier than when a child can’t breathe.Yet, fossil fuels are doing exactly that. Coal, oil and gas are warming our planet, polluting our air and making our kids sick. With air pollution endangering kids at thousands of schools and childcare centres located close to busy roads, we need to clean up our air and our roads to keep kids safe. Meet Jess, a proud Sydney homeowner who’s taking sustainability to new heights—literally!Since installing rooftop solar panels, Jess has cut her energy bills and climate pollution at the same time. Win, win!Hear what Jess has to say about her decision to install solar, how she got there and why she can’t stop talking about it.Learn more about the benefits of rooftop solar here: https://lnkd.in/g3qqShnZ

Aussies have installed a whopping 4 million rooftop solar systems - a new renewable energy milestone. “Aussie homeowners know rooftop solar is a no-brainer when it comes to bringing down bills, which is why we have been installing about 300,000 rooftop systems a year and there is no sign of that slowing down,” said federal energy minister, Chris Bowen. So, c’mon Australia, let’s keep doing more of what we’re good at! https://lnkd.in/gYRTuZ8b

Aussie kids are breathing in toxic fumes every day, and it’s harming their health. A key culprit? Coal, oil and gas. Fossil fuels are polluting the air we breathe and our climate – and this pollution is largely avoidable. For the sake of our kids, our health and the future of our planet, it’s time to phase out polluting cars and deadly fossil fuels. A new report by the Climate Council and Parents for Climate catalogued the impact of climate-fuelled price rises on the economy and Australian families. “Oil and gas are fuelling two crises at the same time - climate change and the high cost of living,” said leading economist and Climate Councillor Nicki Hutley. "Aussies are doing it tough every time we fill up cars with pricey petrol or use expensive gas to heat our homes." "These polluting products are also driving up inflation." https://lnkd.in/gynmjw9Y

NEW REPORT: The vast majority of Australian families are struggling to afford household essentials, including food, electricity and insurance – and fossil fuels are making things worse for parents under the pump. Sky-high prices of oil and gas are driving up bills and extreme weather is driving up insurance bills, crunching already stretched household budgets. The good news is that cutting back on the oil and gas that’s straining our wallets will also cut climate pollution, and there is huge demand out there for rooftop solar, household batteries and energy efficient appliances. Making these solutions more accessible lowers bills and cuts climate pollution to help protect kids’ futures. This year is “a masterclass in human destruction”, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has told COP29. The solution? Urgent, deep cuts to climate pollution this decade to limit warming and the devastating impact it is wreaking on our towns, communities and natural environment. Every fraction of a degree counts in the fight against fossil fuels and our warming world. #COP29 #ClimatePollution

Two entirely different scenarios, both entirely possible and within our control. We know which one we prefer, hbu? As these climate futures make clear: everything we do now matters. All of us – governments, businesses and communities – need to do every single thing we can to slash climate pollution this decade and ensure a safer future for our kids. This powerful graphic was created by Prof. Ed Hawkins.

A 2020 study found that the machines - ranging from mining trucks, outboard motors and forklifts to electricity generators - emitted almost double the amount of particulate matter from Australia's entire on-road fleet. “We now understand there’s no safe level of air pollution. [It’s] a solvable problem … You can do something about relatively quickly, and you’d see benefits relatively quickly as well,” said Dr Kate Charlesworth, Climate Council councillor and physician.
