Our ocean is at a critical tipping point. 🌊 For decades, the ocean has absorbed the impacts of burning fossil fuels, buffering us from the worst effects of the #ClimateCrisis. But record-breaking marine heatwaves are pushing ecosystems to the edge. As the ocean warms, the cascading impacts have far-reaching consequences, affecting people, food security, economies, and global stability. Truly, we’re #InHotWater. It’s time to stop burning fossil fuels and urgently transition to renewables. 💚 Let's secure a #NaturePositive future to protect our ocean. #COP29 #ActForOurPlanet

World leaders are meeting in Baku today for the beginning of #COP29. But what exactly is it, and what is WWF hoping for it to achieve? 🤔 🌿The UN #conference is the largest global gathering on the #climate calendar, which aims to assess progress in stabilising #greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere, and plan for future climate action. Australia has bid to host the 31st COP alongside Pacific nations in 2026, but a decision date is still unknown. 🌿At this year’s COP, the focus is #finance, and the need for Parties to agree to a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) – which is the big figure needed to tackle climate change. Once again, Australians have called for stronger nature laws and protections for our native forests, but will the government listen?🌲 New WA polling commissioned by Senator David Pocock has shown that an overwhelming 78% of West Australians believe national environmental laws should be tougher to protect our wildlife and wild places. And just as many say an independent environmental watchdog — free from government influence — is essential. With only days left in this year’s sitting period, we urge the government to listen to the voices of Australians and work with the crossbench to strengthen and pass the Nature Positive Bills. Now is the time to take meaningful steps towards a nature-positive future! Anthony Albanese Tanya Plibersek #NaturePositive #EPBC #NatureLaws https://lnkd.in/gYfacqGn

Let’s bring COP31 to Australia! 🌏 We’re backing Australia’s bid to host the #COP31 UN Climate Conference in partnership with the Pacific in 2026. This is a chance to showcase real commitment to the Paris agreement by limiting warming to 1.5°C, scaling up #climate adaptation, and ensuring equity — all essential to a thriving future for people and #nature. Joined by partners in the Australian Climate Roundtable, we’re calling on the government to step up and secure this bid. Hosting COP31 is a chance to center First Nations and Pacific leadership, amplify climate urgency in our region, and chart a path toward a #sustainable, resilient #future. Will Australia answer the call and step up on climate leadership? 🔗 Learn more about COP31: Australia’s Opportunity https://lnkd.in/gTKABMfU Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) Australian Aluminium Council Australian Conservation Foundation ACOSS Australian Council of Social Service Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC)

Australia is home to four unique species of quolls, each playing a vital role in our ecosystems. These stunning marsupials help control insect and small animal populations, making them key contributors to biodiversity. Meet the quolls: 🐅 Tiger quoll – The largest, with spots down its tail, found in eastern Aus and Tassie. 🔥 Northern quoll – Small, fierce, and found in northern Australia. 🌿 Western quoll – A southwest local, sporting a brown coat and bright white spots. 🦊 Eastern quoll – with a reddish-brown or black coat and white spots. Quolls are a perfect example of “tiny but mighty”! #Wildlife #AustralianAnimals #Biodiversity

WWF-Australia welcomes the federal government’s $355 million investment to create more than 1,000 new Indigenous ranger jobs, with the vast majority going to women. Malgana woman Bianca McNeair leads WWF’s program to support a network of Indigenous Women Rangers. Bianca said: “This funding for Aboriginal Women Rangers is desperately needed. First Nations women work tirelessly to care for our country and our communities. Elevating them into secure employment to carry out these cultural responsibilities will boost the healing of Country and Community. “It’s good to see efforts to build capacity for Aboriginal Women Rangers in states such as Victoria and Tasmania. “It’s also crucial that new and existing jobs for Indigenous Women Rangers are properly resourced. Only then can we create a bigger national voice for these strong women dedicated to protecting and restoring healthy Country across Australia”. 🖤💛❤️ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gPRsM-fa
