Thursday Grade 1 Mathematics Lesson Plan Lenght and Height
Grade: 1N
Date: Thursday, January 20,2022
Subject: Mathematics
Duration: 1 hour
Topic: Measurement (Length & Height)
Attainment Target: Estimate, compare and use various types of measurements
Objectives: At the end of the lesson students should be able to
1. Identify objects which are long or short, tall or short with 90% accuracy after watching a
video.
2. Correctly arrange and show objects according its height after a class discussion
3. draw and measure objects correctly out of three attempts after doing a presentation
Content
Length is the distance from one end of something to the other end; a measurement of
how long something is; the longer or longest dimension of an object.
For example
Height is a measurement of how tall a person or thing is: the distance from the bottom to
the top of a person or thing
for example:
Procedure:
Engage:
1. The teacher will introduce the topic to the students then play a video for them to watch.
The teacher will let the student know that will ask the following questions after the video
is being played.
Can identify the object that is long?
Can you identify the object that is short?
Can you identify the object that is tall?
Can you identify the object that is short?
2. The teacher will ask the student find object in their bags that are long and short, tall and
short to do a show and tell. The student will show their items to the class tell which of the
items are long, short, tall and short.
Explore:
As a whole class students will use a virtual manipulative to identify which object is
longer, taller or shorter. the virtual manipulative will be projected on the whiteboard for the class
to see, the teacher will read the questions and the students will identify the correct answers.
Explain:
In groups of threes, the students will be given a set of objects (bottles, boxes, paper clips, strings,
etc...) to order them from shortest to longest or vice versa.
Can you explain why you arranged the objects the way you did?
Elaborate:
students will give an estimate about how many paper clips it will take to measure the object.
They will draw and record their estimates in their notebooks.
Can you tell the length of each object?
book, pencil, eraser, pencil case
Evaluate:
Student will complete the worksheets for those who don’t have the text book
Students will complete activities on page 45 and 46 in their textbook.
