SECANTS, TANGENTS AND SECTORS
A circle is defined as a set of all points on a given plane which is equidistant from a fixed point called the
center and a radius of the circle is a segment whose endpoints are the secant
center of the circle and a point on the circle. All radii of the same circle
are equal. diameter
tangent
A tangent is a line coplanar with the circle and intersects it at exactly one point.
The point of intersection is called the point of tangency. A secant is a line that
intersects a circle at exactly two points and contains a chord of the circle. Point of
tangency
Sector of a circle is the region bounded by an arc of the circle and the
two radii to the endpoints of the arc.
Segment of a circle is the region bounded by an arc and the segment joining its
endpoints.
If 𝐴 is the area of a sector of the circle whose radius is 𝑟 and the degree measure of a central angle is 𝑞,

then 𝑨= 𝟑𝟔𝟎

C. Find the area of the sector whose radius and central angle are 42cm and 60° respectively. (Take π =
3.14 and round your answer to one decimal place, if necessary).
D. If the sector area of a sector intersecting Arc AB is 43 square cm and the measure of Arc AB is 43°,
then find the radius. (Take π = 3.14 and round your answer to one decimal place, if necessary)
E. If two secant segments are drawn to a circle from an exterior point, then the product of the
lengths of one secant segment and its external secant segment is equal to the product of the
lengths of the other secant segment and its external secant segment.
