DODGEBALL
A. HISTORY
According to records, Dodgeball is an acient games, maybe the oldest sports known to people It also appear on
the records that a caveman dodge a rock thrown to him by other caveman and one who dodge is it throw it back This
believe to be the beginning of dodgeball
There is a lot of evidence that a game similar to dodgeball was played in Africa more than 200 years ago It wasn’t
a fun, or even entertaining game As a matter of fact, it was played with rocks instead of rubber balls, and was used to
develop the strength and endurance of warriors They would literally throw rocks a each other with the intention of
incapacitating them Some scholars think it went even further than that, and that it was game played to the death.
B. NATURE AND BACKGROUND
 Also known as battleball.

 It is a game of two opposing teams who try to pitch balls to the opposing team while avoiding being hit by the other.
 It is also used as a recreational event and an informal event that can be played on a playground or inside the gym.
 Each team shall have six to eight players to secure the game and avoid forfeiture.
 Substitution can only be made during time out or in the event of injury.
C. EQUIPMENT
1. BALL - Standard measurement and material used for dodgeball is a 7 inches foam ball, roughly the size of a volleyball.

D. THE GAME
The objective of the game is to eliminate all opponents players by hitting them out with the dodgeball .
1. If one hits the opposing team players with a thrown ball just below the shoulder level. (if the player duck and hit above
the shoulder) the throw is considered legal.
2. Once the ball is thrown, a player who’s on the target can catch th e ball. In case that a deflect ball hits another player, it
is not considered out or a hit.
3. The thrown ball was catched by the opponent, the thrower will be eliminated
4. A player steps out of bounds, he will be eliminated.
WHEN THE BALL IS DEFLECTED OFF

The player deflecting the ball is out when…
1. The player get hit after deflecting the ball even if it is above the shoulder level.
2. There is an attempt to catch the deflected ball but it unsuccessfully goes out of his or her hands.
3. There is an attempt to catch a deflected ball but she or he drop it.
The player throwing the ball is out when the player deflecting successfully catches the deflect ball while having
ball used for deflection in his or her possession.
BEGINNING OF THE GAME
1. At the beginning of the game, eight dodge ball are required to be used. The balls are place at the center of the center
of the line of the playing area.
2. The players will position themselves behind the end line of the playing area .
3. At the signal of the official, both teams will go to the center line and get the dodge balls.
4. Once the players have the dodge balls, bring the ball back to then respective end line before they get considered as
a live ball ” or the ball is in play.
Rule : Cannot pick up a ball & throw instantly.
STALLING AND 30 SECOND VIOLATION

If one team has all the balls in possession, they must throw at least two balls with in a 30 second period.
1. 1st offence the game will be stopped and the ball will be divided evenly for each teams. The game continues with
players starting on the end line.
2. 2nd offence removal of one players from the team on offence.
Basically, players have 2 choices

1) Dodge the live ball
2) Catch the ball
Kicking the ball is prohibited
Ball in the possession of a player can be used to block incoming balls.
MATCH PLAY
1. Matches will be decided using a “best of three” (10 min game).
2. League play consists of three 10 min games regardless of the outcomes.

DECLARING WINNER
1. The first team to legally eliminate all opposing players will be the winner.
2. If neither team has been eliminated at the end of regulation, the team with the greater number of remaining
players will be the winner.
3. In all overtime period, the 1st team to legally eliminate any one opponent will be the winner.
If only 2 players left, one throws a ball at the other who then catches it, the player who threw the ball is out &
the game is over
