INTRODUCTION:

The first "touch sensor" was developed by Doctor Sam Hurst while he was an instructor at the University of Kentucky. Touch screen is an electronic visual display that can detect presence or location of a touch within the display area. The term Touch Screen refers to touching a display of a device with a finger of hand. The display screen has a sensitive glass overlay placed on it and that accepts direct onscreen input.

DEFINITION

A touch screen is basically an input device that allows a user to operate a PC or any other device by simply touching the display screen with a finger. A touch screen is a computer display screen, The screens are sensitive to pressure; a user interacts with the computer by touching pictures or words on the screen.

WORKING:

A basic touch screen has three main components -touch sensor. -controller. -software driver. The touch screen is an input device, so it needs to be combined with a display and a PC or other device to make a complete touch input system.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES:


ADVANTAGES: Direct pointing to the objects. No keyboard is necessary. Finger or pen is usable. Fast in operation. DISADVANTAGES: Low precision by using finger. User has to sit or stand closer to the screen. The screen may be covered more by using hand. No direct activation to the selected function.
