INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION::
 Touch technology is about using your fingers or a
stylus to view or manipulate information that
appears on your computer screen.

 Just as the traditional system

registers every event of a mouse
click, the touch screen system also
generates an event each time you
touch your system.
TOUCH
TOUCHSCREEN
SCREEN::
 A touch screen is any monitor,
based either on LCD (Liquid
Crystal Display) or CRT (Cathode
Ray Tube) technology, that
accepts direct on screen input.
COMPONENTS
COMPONENTS::
A basic touch screen is made of three main
components:
 Touch sensor

 Controller

 Software driver.

Combined with a display and a PC or other

devices, Touch screens act as an input device
and make a complete touch .
TOUCH
TOUCHSENSOR
SENSOR::

 A touch screen sensor a clear glass panel with a

touch responsive surface.

 The sensor generally has an electrical current or

signal going through it and touching the screen
causes a voltage or signal change.
CONTROLLER
CONTROLLER::

 The Controller is a small PC card that connects

between the touch sensor and your PC.

 The controller is usually installed inside the

monitor for integrated monitors or it is housed
in a plastic case for external touch add-
ons/overlays.
SOFTWARE
SOFTWAREDRIVER
DRIVER::

 The driver is a software update for the PC system

that allows the touch screen and computer to work
together

 It tells the computer's operating system how to

interpret the touch event information that is sent
from the controller.

 Most touch screen drivers today are mouse-emulation

type drivers. This makes touching the screen the
same as clicking your mouse at the same location on
the screen.

TOUCHTECHNOLOGIES
TECHNOLOGIES::

There is a variety of touch technologies available,

based mainly on these mechanisms:

 Resistance
 Capacitance
 Acoustics,
 Optics

Some factors that affect the choice of sensors

such as roughness of handling, resolution,
precision of touch, activation force, response
time, type of stylus used and touch life.
RESISTANCE
RESISTANCEBASED
BASEDSENSORS
SENSORS::
 A resistant sensor uses a thin, flexible
membrane separated from a glass or plastic
substrate by insulating spacers.

 The exterior face of the glass is coated with a

conductive, a hard-coated plastic sheet is then
suspended over the glass overlay.

 Between the glass and the plastic sheet, there

are thousands of tiny separator dots.

 These metallic coatings meet when a finger or

stylus presses against the screen, thus closing an
electrical circuit.
APPLICATION
APPLICATION::
 PUBLIC INFORMATION DISPLAY

 GAMING AND CASINO MANAGEMENT

 INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

 CUSTOMER SELF SERVICE

 RETAIL AND RESTAURANT SYSYTEM

DURABILITY
DURABILITY::

 The maximum life of a touch screen is estimated

to be less than 50 million touches in any one
location.

 Infrared and surface acoustic wave should,

theoretically, have a nearly unlimited life, but
for a variety of reasons, they don’t last forever.
ADVANTAGES
ADVANTAGES::

 The most obvious advantage is its directness:

what you touch is what you get. This simplifies
the whole computer/human interface, eliminated
learning curves and instantly transforms anyone
who can touch into an expert user.

 Touch systems offer the best combination of

functionality, cost, lifespan and ease-of use.
