When you think of a college football player, a 30-year old former Army Infantry and Communications officer typically doesn’t come to mind. But Eric Goins is pursuing a dual MBA and Master of Global Affairs degree at Notre Dame—and is also a walk-on kicker for the Fighting Irish football team. When he joined the team, Coach Marcus Freeman, whose father was in the Air Force, knew Goins’ experience in the military was going to be an asset for his teammates. I was at my 20 year Naval Academy reunion this past weekend and was reminded of what a special place it is. But stories like this also remind me of what a special place Notre Dame is, and highlight why I chose to pursue my MBA there. Feeling very blessed and lucky to call both my alma mater Go Navy, Go Irish … Beat Army!
As an Army infantry and communications veteran, father of a kicker, and lifelong Irish fan who grew up in South Bend, I am exceedingly proud of Capt. Goins and salute him 🫡 for all he has done, is doing and will do going forward. Go Irish! ☘️
