Serving West Point and the Long Gray Line; furthering the ideals and promoting the welfare of USMA.
About us
West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) is the Alumni Association for the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. Its mission is to serve West Point and its graduates (also known as "Long Gray Line"). Its purpose is to further the ideals and promote the welfare of the Academy. WPAOG was founded in 1869 to reunite Academy graduates who found themselves on opposing sides during the American Civil War. Today, it continues to strengthen the bonds of the “Long Gray Line” through communications and services to graduates, Classes, and Societies, and through building relationships with current Cadets at West Point…our future graduates. By Memorandum of Agreement with the USMA, WPAOG is the primary organization, other than the Army Athletic Association, authorized to raise private funds on behalf of the United States Military Academy. As a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation, its philanthropic pursuits maintain the “Margin of Excellence” at West Point, providing needed support for over 170 Cadet activities, cultural immersion programs, scholarships and facilities. The James K. Herbert Alumni Center, including WPAOG offices, event space, library, historical archives, gift shop and staff, is truly the heartbeat of the United States Military Academy for returning graduates who visit West Point. The Center provides a special place for alumni and their guests to gather, and for them to meet invited current Cadets. The Alumni Center also enables WPAOG to respond effectively and personally to the needs of West Point graduates. WPAOG publishes "West Point" magazine, "TAPS" magazine, and "The Register of Graduates." These publications may be purchased online or are available in the WPAOG Gift Shop. West Point graduates are welcome to join our West Point Association of Graduates LinkedIn group and to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Visit our website to learn more.

🏈 #OnThisDay in 1890, the first ever Army-Navy game took place which marked the beginning of competitive intercollegiate athletics at West Point. Dennis Mahan Michie, in which the football stadium is named after, entered West Point in 1888 and had a goal of bringing football to the United States Military Academy. He knew that the USMA Academic Board would be reluctant to approve the contest, so he got Navy to issue a challenge. After convincing his father, a professor of natural and experimental philosophy (physics); Commandant Hamilton S. Hawkins, and Superintendent John M. Wilson that the pride of West Point was at stake, they persuaded the Academic Board to allow the contest. Their only condition was that the game would be played at West Point. The two week countdown to the 125th meeting between Army and Navy starts tomorrow!
