What's the story behind Asian Pacific American Heritage Month? 🌺 It began as a week before it became a month. Jeannie Jew, a former Capitol Hill staffer, introduced the idea as a way to transform a family tragedy into a positive force. To learn more about Jeannie's story, you can click the link provided in Day 1 of the AANHPI Learning Calendar, which I've shared below. 🌟 Honoring AANHPI Heritage Month: Daily Learning Activities 🌟 As an Asian American educator and advocate for equitable learning, I am excited to share the AANHPI Learning Calendar—a set of learning resources in honor of Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month—I created with you. I invite you to set aside just 15 minutes each day throughout May to engage with videos, audio recordings, and readings that I've organized into the calendar. While not exhaustive, these resources shed light on different aspects of AANHPI culture, history, and experiences that have likely gone unknown or hidden from the mainstream culture. This is for everyone who, like me, was not taught AANHPI history growing up, including those of us who continue to not see ourselves or our stories celebrated in our schools, workplaces, and mainstream media outside of heritage months. Knowledge is power, and these learning activities aim to disrupt the knowledge gap created by the invisibility of our histories and contributions. ‘Diversifying the Energy Sector: EDI initiatives that succeed’ - blog ✍🏻 Check out this blog from UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) looking back at their event that brought together 70 people from across energy and academia to discuss progress and challenges in delivering EDI projects. Our Head of PfW, Georgina Worrall, chaired a discussion on "What's next for EDI in energy?" where the excellent panellists delivered some critical insights and calls to action: 1.    Make everyone feel welcome in the sector. Create new avenues for young people, with an open door to apprenticeships. 2.    Minorities who feel able to speak up about their experiences may help to inspire others who feel different. 3.    We shouldn’t forget that it’s often the people who are not in the room who need convincing. 4.    Talk to young people, listen to them and don’t shy away from difficult topics like climate change. and fossil fuels. 5.    Good quality data is the key to analysing what changes we need to make. 6.    Organisations need to focus on support, workplace culture and representation. EMPOWERING RESEARCH: MY JOURNEY IN THE 3MTT PROGRAMME As a participant in the ongoing 3MTT program, I've found the collaborative spirit among fellow researchers to be my favorite aspect. The exchange of ideas, team camaraderie, and shared passion for research create an inspiring environment. Whether discussing complex theories or celebrating small victories, these interactions fuel my enthusiasm and drive to excel. Being part of the 3MTT program will significantly shape my immediate future in the following ways: 1. Networking and Collaboration: The connections I've made with fellow researchers will lead to exciting collaborations. We'll exchange ideas, provide feedback, and potentially work on joint projects. These relationships are invaluable for my academic journey. 2. Skill Enhancement: The program's workshops and training sessions enhance my research skills, from effective communication to data analysis. Applying these skills will make me a more well-rounded researcher. 3. Visibility: Presenting my research in the 3MTT competition boosts my visibility.
