🌍 What an amazing start to the week in beautiful Riga! 🌍 🙌Big thanks to Janis Spigulis for hosting us at the University of Latvia (Latvijas Universitāte) 🏛️. The energy, creativity, and fresh ideas from everyone were absolutely inspiring! 🤩 We're already excited for what the future holds – and who knows, maybe we’ll be back for another Training School in Spitsbergen? 👀❄️ It was such a success, we can't wait to see what’s next! Stay tuned for more exciting plans coming your way! #COST #PhoBioS #COSTAction #Riga #LabTour #Innovation #Research #Biophotonics #Collaboration
Summary of COST WG meeting in Riga. (PhoBioS - COST Action CA21159) We had a very busy beginning of the week in beautiful Riga. Colleagues from the Action met to discuss Nature-inspired materials: Applications & Properties. On Monday 9th September our host Janis Spigulis invited us to the University of Latvia (Latvijas Universitāte). We appreciated visiting the laboratories of the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy, UL: - Quantum Optics Laboratory, - Laboratory of Optical Biosensors and Functional Materials, - Biophotonics Laboratory. Apart from the lab tour, the meeting included scientific and organisational presentations. Marcin Gnyba from Gdańsk University of Technology presented his project: Raman spectroscopy in environmental protection. Later on, Igor Meglinski from Aston University presented: An example of nature inspired materials: dynamic phantoms of the mouse brain. Thank you both for inspiring talks and sharing your results. When it comes to PhoBioS - COST Action CA21159 activities, we reflected on the recent Training Schools at Spitsbergen - Photonic structure in Arctic environment. It was highly successful event, which might be repeated in the future. Stay tuned! We also found time to discuss our plans for 2025. Yet to be revealed 😊. The second day of our meeting took place at the IEEE conference “Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties”. We are grateful to Janis, who organised that event and invited Colleagues for COST action. Many members of the group delivered their presentations at the conference: Dror Fixler ‘New directions in Correlative Multimodal Imaging (CMI) – tattoos removal as case study’ Igor Meglinski: ‘Beyond Conventional Diagnostics: Revealing Blood Microstructures through the Harnessing Optical Anisotropy with Polarized Light’ Janis Spigulis: ‘Recent Biophotonics Projects of the Riga Group’ Maurizio Dabbicco: ‘Mid Infrared Label Free Interferometric Detectorless Imaging Photonic Circuit’ Dragan Indjin: Terahertz Quantum Cascade Laser Imaging of Human Skin Pathologies: Towards Early Detection of Skin Cancer Using Laser Feedback Interferometry’ Tatiana Novikova: ‘What Could We Learn about Biological Tissue by Probing It with Polarized Light’ The oral sessions were followed by the poster session. It was yet another opportunity to promote our PhoBioS - COST Action CA21159. The energy, conversations, and connections made were truly inspiring. It was a perfect blend of experience and fresh perspectives. A huge thank you to the organizers for putting together such a well-structured and engaging event. Every interaction felt meaningful, and I walked away with valuable insights, new contacts, and exciting opportunities on the horizon! #PhoBioS #COSTAction #Riga #LabTour #Innovation #Research #Biophotonics #Collaboration #UniversityOfLatvia #ScienceInAction
